In this role, you will be responsible for conducting rigorous techno-economic analyses to assess the feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and scalability of Heirloom's DAC system and new innovations. Working at the intersection of engineering and economics, you will play a crucial role in guiding strategic decision-making and optimizing the commercial viability of DAC projects. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize the performance and efficiency of Heirloom's DAC system. This includes analyzing operational data, identifying bottlenecks, and proposing engineering solutions to improve system reliability and productivity<h1>What You Will Bring</h1>In this role, you will leverage your Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field to apply your  understanding of chemical engineering principles, thermodynamics, and process optimization. Drawing on your experience in conducting techno-economic analyses for energy or environmental technologies, particularly in the carbon capture/utilization/storage (CCUS) sector or on early stage technologies, you will analyze complex data sets to derive actionable insights. Ideally, you would have experience predicting system level behavior of technology deployments incorporating factors such as local clean power supply, plot layout restrictions or other unique factors which can impact the cost and performance of individual deployments. A hands-on approach, coupled with acute attention to detail in experimental work, is essential. Your proficiency in data analysis and modeling, preferably with knowledge of Python, or other modeling software, is highly valued. Furthermore, your ability to troubleshoot effectively when experimental data does not align with expectations is a key attribute for success in this position. Your role involves leading planning and design of critical projects, including facility upgrades and new installations. Collaboration will be critical as you will partner closely with our plant design team to ensure delivery of top-tier work products for projects. This entails conducting process conceptual design, engineering calculations, reviewing detailed design drawings, and preparing technical reports and specifications. Your responsibilities extend to evaluating alternative process design concepts, working in interdisciplinary teams to create integrated designs, and working with vendors to spec and procure capital equipment. Your ability to proactively seek innovative technologies and design tools for design is essential, contributing to our commitment to sustainable development goals. <h1>What you will bring</h1>In your 3+ years of experience, you have led process design on multiple projects, showcasing strong teamwork within interdisciplinary teams. You possess expertise in developing heat/material balances, creating PFDs, and leading P&amp;ID generation. Your experience includes fluid hydraulic calculations for equipment and familiarity with engineering requirements, client specs, and relevant codes (API, ANSI, ASME, NFPA). Communication skills are essential for collaboration within the design team to be able convey technical concepts and ideas within the team and beyond. This person will build and lead an organization that designs, deploys, commissions and operates new Heirloom carbon removal sites across the US and internationally. Capitalizing on Heirloom’s awarded DAC Hub applications from the DOE this past year, the Head of Capital Projects will orchestrate teams to complete numerous pre-FEEDs and FEED processes in parallel while charting out the deployment strategy beyond currently funded projects. We see the Head of Capital Projects role as having 4 main components:Deployment: Here you will be responsible for selecting and managing EPCs/GCs or building in-house teams to prepare comprehensive site readiness for all equipment and balance of plant. Your org will also lead installation onsite, and manage and maintain all future sites. Strategic design: You will bridge any gaps between technology development and construction to accelerate project timelines and efficiently scope builds. Design for Field Operations as a primary customer to manage the day to day of the carbon removal process.Functional leadership: Build and scale high-performance teams, develop and continuously improve robust processes and systems that drive growth, profitability, and repeatability. This would include oversight of Field Operations.Leadership Team Member: You will serve as an agile and critical member of the Heirloom leadership team, bringing your subject matter expertise to the table as we build a truly once in a generation business.This role can be based in either our Brisbane office or remotely in the TX/LA Gulf Coast region.What you will bringYou will be able to demonstrate a successful history of completing large capital projects on-time, on-spec and on-budget, especially modular infrastructure and repeatable mega projects. That experience has likely been gained in deploying billion-dollar+ modular projects in other industries (i.e. renewable energy, power generation, manufacturing, industrials, automation, data centers). Whatever industries you’re coming from, you have the intellectual horsepower, financial acumen, project management, and continuous improvement capabilities to be able to apply and modify your learnings and experience to fit Heirloom’s needs. Over your career, you have gained the strong customer / commercial orientation needed to drive strategic partnerships and project development as well as experience driving down technology costs from a constructability standpoint or managing key CapEx/OpEx tradeoffs. Start up experience working with first-of-its-kind technology and/or  experience in an organization going through high growth / scaling where the leader would have been responsible for developing new capabilities or processes would be ideal.Lastly, this role can be based in either Brisbane, CA or remotely in the TX/LA Gulf Coast region.
