<h2>About the Role:</h2>
As an early member of our software engineering team, you will have the opportunity to establish best practices and build our go-to-market platform. WATS is a climate tech startup decarbonizing businesses with waste operations software. WATS is solving for a $100M serviceable market - climate tech is a 1.5 trillion dollar industry.&nbsp;
You will work directly with our founding team to deliver a software platform that meets all the needs a business has on their journey to manage their waste sustainably while reducing their costs and carbon. This role will require you to work across a modern web application stack and make informed decisions about what languages, frameworks, tools and services we will utilize to scale WATS to hundreds of thousands of customers.

We are a climate tech startup building innovative software to enable and optimize Waste Management operations within businesses of all sizes. We will stop at nothing to ensure that WATS is the platform for businesses to solve all their waste management needs.&nbsp;&nbsp;
WATS helps businesses streamline their waste operations, report on carbon impacts, and comply with shifting environmental regulations. WATS is led by two female co-founders (<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/meredithdf/">Meredith Danberg-Ficarelli</a> and <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/laura-rosenshine/">Laura Rosenshine</a>) with over 2 decades of experience in the commercial waste industry with a focus on delivering zero waste solutions in New York City. They are building a SaaS solution that solves the pain points at the intersection of commercial waste management and sustainability. The United States has finally stepped up with monumental climate legislation, and the time to act is now.
Meredith and Laura are die hard zero waste experts and highly motivated to do everything in their power to make WATS a major part of the solution businesses need to change their procedures so that they handle their waste as sustainably as possible.
In 2022 WATS was a participant in the <a href="http://eranyc.com">Entrepreneur Roundtable Accelerator</a>. In February of 2023 WATS&nbsp; completed the <a href="https://masschallenge.org/programs-decarbonization">MassChallenge Decarbonization Accelerator</a>, and in March of 2023 WATS closed their pre-seed round of venture capital funding and took in a bridge in the Fall of 2023. WATS has secured a lead investor for their Seed round of fundraising in March 2024.
WATS currently has a handful of enterprise clients.
Your Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Take a senior role in designing and developing our Next.js React/TypeScript application and related systems, ensuring high performance, scalability, and maintainability.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Build API services, tests, data ingestion methods, React components, cloud infrastructure, and analytics in collaboration with our product and design team to exceed our customers' needs and expectations.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Set technical direction and establish/contribute to software development best practices for code quality, data security, and adherence to industry standards</li>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">Mentor and guide junior developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Collaborating with product owners and participating in our planning and design meetings, daily standups, and other team and product building processes.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">Ownership of your tasks until completion, with a focus on quality code, customer experience, and data privacy</li>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">Work closely with product managers and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.</li>
</ul>
Minimum Qualifications:
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Passionate self-driven software engineer with 7+ years of experience delivering modern full stack solutions</li>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">Expertise with React.js, Typescript, Node.js and web application stacks in general.&nbsp; Next.js experience a plus.&nbsp; Other backend languages and experience considered.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">Proficiency writing SQL and data modeling</li>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">Experience building scalable APIs, microservices, and other system architecture using AWS (or other cloud infrastructure) and containerization tools</li>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">Experience managing infrastructure using Terraform or other IaC tools a plus</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Product-oriented mindset. Comfortable translating nontechnical product requirements into code, and opinionated about usability and design.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">Dedication to designing and writing clean, readable and testable code in a professional manner, using best practices in a team environment</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Mission Driven and interested in creating applications that have a positive social and environmental impact</li>
</ul>
Work Authorization: This is a full time role and not open for visa sponsorship - the individual must be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada or the United States.
Annual Salary and terms:&nbsp;
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">$165-$200K&nbsp;</li>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">Equity award equivalent to 0.15-0.5%&nbsp;</li>
<li style="font-weight: 300;" aria-level="1">This role comes with 20 days, inclusive of sick and personal days, and company holidays&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
Location: New York City, preferred, or remote for the right candidate, our organization operates on an EST work schedule.
