QuantumScape is a well-funded start-up located in San Jose, California, and is working on a groundbreaking solid-state battery technology for electric vehicle applications. We are seeking a motivated and hardworking researcher study the solid-solid interface. Our ideal team member is self-motivated, can deliver against tight development schedules, has good interpersonal skills, can work independently as well as in teams and enjoys working on challenging and impactful projects.
The role:Diagnose interface problem by combining materials characterizations and electrochemical analysisScreen different materials and approaches to modify the surface for laminationDrive the interface engineering to improve lamination qualityDesign and/or customize R&D tools to enable materials researchIntroduce and qualify new processes to our baseline processCollaborate with engineers from multiple disciplines to optimize solutions and ensure that device design and performance goals are met; deliver high-quality technical report
Minimum Requirements:PhD's degree in Materials Science/Chemical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Chemistry/Physics or Master's degree with five years of experience in a relevant industrySolid background in electrochemistry and solid-state ion conductorsHand-on experience in materials synthesis or device fabrication and characterizationsKnowledge of safe laboratory practices, especially in handling chemicalsPerform under pressure in an energized and a fast paced environment; love working in a team setting and capable of working independentlyClear verbal and written communication skills to logically communicate ideas and thought processes
Nice to Haves:2+ years of experience in battery researchExpertise in interface characterizations including both sample preparation and data analysisDeep understanding in ceramic materials phase diagrams and solid-state ion conduction mechanismsProficient in bulk and surface analysis techniques: SEM, XPS, XRD, SIMS, Raman, DMA, mechanical testingYou are disciplined in your approach and rely on the application of statistical methods for experiment planning, data analysis, and process control We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.
