BI Developer

Kin + Carta is seeking a Senior BI Developer to join our Data Science team. You will be working with one of our sister companies in the UK, K+C Edit, with multiple client-facing projects, distributed teams and a wide variety of BI/MI reports and data structures. About you:

• Ability to pull Insight from the reports and recommend actions
• Ability to easily identify key issues and opportunities for the client and confidently articulate it
• Demonstrable experience of working with Power BI and Azure
• Good knowledge of database structures and data manipulation software such as SQL, Databricks, etc
• Desire to learn and apply data visualisation methodologies and principles
• Ability to develop reporting in a way that tells the data story to the client which they can easily act on
• Ability to consider if BI recommendations have implications wider than just the scope and can provide real benefit to the clients
• Strong attention to detail
• A willingness to work around problems / less than perfect data
• A focus on the end product – with responsibility for many of the deliverables to the client, you will need to be confident everything produced meets our strict quality standards
• Communication skills; face to face with clients, and writing blogs
• Always willing to develop their knowledge in the field learning from best practice
• Team player who can work as a fully contributing member of a team

Real Bonus Points

• Experience of working with databases and systems that handle large volumes of data (10’s of millions of records)
• Some knowledge of analytics and modelling to be able to identify modelling opportunities
• Experience of working in an ISO27001 environment
• Marketing background
• Degree in a numerate discipline
• Microsoft DA100/700-778 certified

What you will be doing:

• Be responsible for the discovery, design and delivery of the right reporting solutions for the client
• Working with cross-functional teams to ensure the data needed by clients is available to deliver the BI/MI requirements and KPIs identified by the head of BI
• Working with clients to develop visual and interactive reporting solutions which address their business questions, ensuring it fits within the overarching BI strategy identified by the head of BI
• Lead the implementation of the reporting solutions based on requirements defined in conjunction with, or defined by, the Head of BI
• Ensuring that best-practice recommendations are followed, where appropriate
• Clearly and confidently articulating actionable insight identified
• Tell the story from the data and visualise the data in a way which is easier for clients to understand and action
• Quickly understand BI briefs and build solutions which directly answer client’s briefs
• Spot BI opportunities for clients and raise these with the Head of BI
• Think outside the box, be creative and think about new ways to tackle the client problem
• Ability to confidently demo and playback the reporting outputs to the client
• Highlight key action points from the report so that it’s easier for the client to make decisions
• Knowledge of SQL Server, databases and other sources where data can be fed into the BI solution, such as Google Analytics
• Comply with Information Security and Health and Safety requirements at all times
