What we’re looking for:

We are seeking an experienced market research analyst who is passionate about leveraging market data and customer insights to create new growth opportunities and revenue streams. As the first market research analyst at the company, this is the perfect opportunity for a candidate with an entrepreneurial mindset who has the ability to influence a wide variety of business decisions across a range of cross-functional teams.

You’re right for this role if you have a proven track record of answering ambiguous questions through in-depth consumer research and market analysis. You have modeled and forecasted demand and lifetime value, creating strategies that remove customer barriers and leverage market drivers. Additionally, you have led the development of new pricing strategies across product and customer segments, optimizing your recommendations based on competitive analyses and other market conditions.

In this role, you will work closely with colleagues in Finance, Partnerships, Analytics & Data Science, Brand & Communications, Product, and beyond, so cross-functional collaboration is critical to success in this role.

This role can be based in Washington, D.C. or New York and will report directly to the VP Marketing.

What you'll do:

  • Build & execute all facets of market research including operational management of conducting research, analyzing the data & developing reports
  • Monitor & track market trends, translating into actionable insights to answer critical business questions & influencing the development of team strategies & roadmaps
  • Develop strong relationships as a strategic partner with Product, Design, Engineering, Analytics, Product Marketing & Partnerships teams to identify high impact work & ensure it lands within the organization
  • Partner with Finance and Growth & Lifecycle Marketing to enhance & optimize funnel approach & pricing models
  • Partner with Communications & Corporate Development to leverage insights to create thought leadership content
  • Lead claims testing & validation of messaging/content strategy to attract & retain customers

What will help you succeed:

Must-haves:

  • BA/BS degree or similar college-level education
  • 6+ years of experience in market research & business analyst roles (preferably B2C) including direct-to-consumer marketing experience of a subscription product
  • Experience executing a variety of qualitative & quantitative research methodologies
  • Experience with advanced methods for exploring consumer behaviors (e.g. Regression analysis, factor analysis, etc.)
  • Experience with statistical analysis packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS, etc.)
  • Creative & empathetic thinker; you always think customer first
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset -- you anticipate & plan for future challenges 
  • Exceptional attention to detail, process orientation, & an analytical mindset
  • Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, specifically with Product, Data Science, Engineering & Product Marketing
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments & can adapt quickly to shifting priorities
  • Experience selecting, onboarding, & fully leveraging vendors
  • Passion for our mission, sustainability, & helping drive a clean-energy future

Nice-to-haves:

  • Direct-to-consumer subscription marketing experience
  • MBA or Masters in Statistics, Behavioral Science or other data-driven fields
  • Customer.io experience, SQL & data visualization tools
