Contract type:               Full time, permanent with a probation period of 3 months

 

Starting date:                 January 2021

 

Location:                         Belgium, with occasional travels abroad

 

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

In  this  role,  the  successful  candidate  will  work  with  our  small  and  entrepreneurial  team  to coordinate various operational projects with our different clients in Europe, as well as in Latin America  and  Africa.  Our  clients  are  farmers  and  corporate  farming  companies  that  wish  to transition from conventional to regenerative (organic) agricultural system.

 

You will assist the Agronomy team across a portfolio of operations and projects, ensuring Soil Capital delivers value to our partners. In this context, the candidate will occasionally contribute to  our  decision-support  and  reward  platform  called  mySoilCapital  by  ensuring  farm  data collection, feedback to farmers and delivery of adapted regenerative transition plan.

 

The Junior Agronomist will have the following responsibilities:

  • Data collection, encoding and analysis, documentation and report preparation
  • Field work and hands-on assistance in various projects related to our farm management services in Belgium and occasionally abroad
  • Preparation of  presentations  to  deliver  feedback,  recommendations  and  challenge  to our clients and partners
  • Strengthening of   relationships   with   existing   and   prospective   clients   to   grow   our customer base

 

Skills, Qualifications & Attitude

 

  • MSc in Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering or similar degree
  • Proven field and technical experience (agronomical and mechanical) in relevant farming environments, combining operational involvement and project planning
  • Excellent communication skills in both French and English (Spanish is a bonus)
  • Proven ability to analyse complex situations, formulate technical advice and combine practical field work with meaningful reporting deliverables
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, confident and happy to work hard and with self-direction to accomplish meaningful goals

 

 

  • Strongly interested in regenerative agriculture and by the environmental impact of Soil

Capital’s core mission

  • Critical thinker, problem solver, results oriented, disciplined and conscientious
  • Knowledge of both organic and conventional farming systems
  • Experience with GIS mapping tools as well as soil analysis interpretation
