Job Description

As a Senior Prototyping Engineer, you will lead a team focused on building new test platforms for investigating CO2 conversion, maintaining existing infrastructure, and assisting with the development and prototyping of new test equipment and methods. In this role, you will have individual hands-on responsibilities as an engineer, as well as the opportunity to manage a small team. You will work on projects in collaboration with other teams at Opus 12 across various disciplines.

What You Will Do

  • Design and build equipment and instrumentation for testing CO2 conversion processes
  • Investigate and validate new characterization techniques through the use of sensors, hardware, and test methodologies
  • Troubleshoot and repair test equipment such as gas chromatographs and mass flow controllers
  • Automate data acquisition, storage, and analysis
  • Establish operational objectives and work plans and contribute to engineering roadmap development
  • Document operating procedures and bill of materials for ongoing projects
  • Prepare presentations and report on progress at internal meetings
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers working in the same discipline

Who You Are

  • You have a B.S. or M.S. degree in a STEM field
  • You have 5+ years of work experience with product development, systems engineering, chemical engineering, controls engineering or a related field
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience designing and building hardware/scientific equipment
  • Experience in mentoring and/or managing team members
  • Strong desire and curiosity to learn new things
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment

A stand-out candidate would show broad ability to prototype across several disciplines of engineering, including but not limited to the following areas:

  • Experience working with industrial-scale R&D facility and equipment
  • Experience working in laboratory environment with compressed gasses
  • CAD experience (especially design and fabrication of custom parts)
  • Mechatronics experience
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and PLCs
  • Programming experience, especially developing graphical user interfaces for equipment control/automation and/or experience with databases
  • Basic electronics experience (e.g. design and build op-amp circuits)
  • Exposure to electrochemistry and potentiostats (I-V curves, EIS)
