We are looking for a hands-on individual to help us develop our core technology by characterizing the material properties of components within our system. In this role, you will work closely with our technology teams and analytical team to spend time in the laboratory observing and measuring physical phenomena, enabling scientists and engineers to extract critical information necessary to advance our technology. A successful candidate will have experience with sample preparation and execution of standard materials characterization techniques.

What you'll do:

  • Use standard operating procedures (SOPs) for preparing samples and executing characterization measurements, including metallurgical microscopyImplement various process improvements for existing standard analytics protocols
  • Interface with external laboratories to coordinate sample shipment, characterization requests, and data organization
  • Evaluate and flag analytics results for atypical results or anomalies 
  • Track sample status using a cloud-based organizational tool
  • Facilitate installation, assembly and maintenance of new analytical instrumentsLead and participate in laboratory organization events

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience using materials characterization equipment
  • Experience with a subset of instruments including but not limited to SEM, XRD, BET, porosimetry, optical microscopy and pycnometry preferred
  • Experience with metallurgical sample preparation such as mounting and polishing preferred
  • Additional experience with wet chemistry sample handling such as glovebox and fume hood preferredExperience independently creating new procedures for preparing and analyzing materials preferred
  • Basic chemical hygiene knowledgeExperience using cloud based organizational tools
  • Strong communication skills within a group of peers and broader organization
