We’re looking for a seasoned, hands-on accounting leader to build out Aspiration’s Controllership department to support the company’s growth by providing a strong foundation for a single source of truth on numbers. As a company with a broker-dealer subsidiary, the Head Controller will play a key role in ensuring accounting activities are centralized and controlled as we scale. A successful candidate will be able to collaborate cross-functionally and be a key #2 partner to the CFO. This role reports to the CFO. 

What You'll Do

• Stand up an in-house controllership team across the parent company and broker-dealer subsidiary, transitioning all existing external vendor and contractor activities in-house
• Lead overall month-end process, and partner with financial operations to execute the process in a timely and accurate manner
• Generate consolidated GAAP financial statements, and provide to external stakeholders monthly 
• Support FP&A team with transaction and accounting insights for variance analysis commentary 
• Evolve accounting processes, controls, systems and tools 
• Partner closely with the Legal/Compliance team to ensure good standing with regulators 
• Oversee internal audit process
• Lead and manage a team

What You'll Bring

• 15+ years of experience as a Controller in Financial Services, especially in consumer banking and/or consumer lending business (must have financial services controllership experience)
• CPA required and Big 5 accounting background preferred 
• Experience with Broker-Dealers is a plus
• Prior start-up company experience is a plus 
• Experience evolving processes, controls and systems to support growth-stage companies
• Experience with ERP implementation (e.g. Net Suite)
• Experience building and leading teams
• Exceptional ability to lead and collaborate with and influence business partners 
• Excellent communication skills and superior attention to detail 
• Highly motivated and proactive with a strong degree of integrity
