Job Description

Location: Flexible - commutable to Bristol or London

We launched in 2009 with a mission to change energy for the better. Since then, we’ve welcomed over a million members, planted a million trees, and set our sights on helping save the planet.

This role is within OVO Smart Home. We’re responsible for providing customers with the data, technology and insights that will make zero carbon possible. We’ve got huge ambitions to design green experiences and homes which are convenient, comfortable and affordable driven by the best technology out there.

Green energy and technology are great tools to fight the climate crisis with. But it’s people power that will rewrite history.

So we’re building a zero carbon team inside and out. Of people who share our values, feel inspired by our mission, and want to make change happen. When you work for OVO, it’s not just a job. It’s the work of a lifetime.  And we want the sharpest minds to help.

Up for the challenge?

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

Reporting to the Head of Propositions and Partnerships, this is an exciting and challenging opportunity to build OVO’s heating systems expertise and capability. We want to become the experts for developing sustainable, comfortable and affordable heating solutions for our customers and your deep and practical knowledge is a key part of getting us there.

What will I be doing?

We are looking for a heating systems engineer or specialist to advise OVO on all technical aspects of heating system design, specification, installation, monitoring and evaluation - specifically for low carbon heating technologies like Heat Pumps. As we grow our Smart Heat team and increase our efforts to decarbonise heating from our 5 million customers’ homes, we need a technical advisor with a breath of knowledge across heating systems. Specifically, the successful candidate would:

  • Be the go-to person for technical knowledge of heating systems across a range of solutions: fossil fuels, resistive electric, solar thermal, air & ground source heat pumps as well as other key system components (distribution systems, control interfaces such as smart thermostats)
  • Support strategic & commercial evaluation of various products in terms of their heating performance & compatibility with UK housing, supply chains and workforce availability - working with the Commercial Manager to assess the resulting cost for customers, market opportunities and go-to-market plans
  • Evaluate the risks, challenges and opportunities for projects which require heating system installations / upgrades - working with OVO’s Field Operations and Compliance teams.
  • Develop and support creation of our end-to-end heating system delivery processes: work with partners and internal field-based engineers to ensure trial systems are installed to required standards (QA), support with diagnosis of escalated issues and identify process changes to improve installation quality over time.
  • Own and develop training processes for people across the Smart Home and OVO retail group including customer service, installers etc
  • Contribute to policy asks, project bids, partnership development and building a broad centre of excellence in low carbon heating within OVO Smart Home.

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you will have:

  • >5 years experience working directly with the installation and maintenance of UK heating systems: design, planning, installation, commissioning, repair & maintenance. Mandatory would be working with Heat Pumps, ideally also with Gas and Oil Heating systems.
  • Degree qualified
  • MCS certification held in the past 12 months - specifically for Air Source Heat Pumps

From us you’ll get*

  • An annual discretionary bonus
  • 4% of your salary to spend on flexible lifestyle benefits
  • 5% matched employer contribution to your pension
  • 25 days holiday + 1 for your birthday
  • And many more...

(*) Please note that certain benefits kick-in once you have passed probation which can be up to 6 months after your start date.
