We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the Architecture and Acceleration team in the Motion Planning and Controls Group. The team will design and develop maintainable, extensible and scalable software solutions and frameworks to drive development of the Motion Planning and Controls software stack. It will own the SW architecture as well as tools and frameworks to accelerate testing of algorithms, improving diagnostics coverage, and facilitating data analysis and requirements validation for Motion Planning and Controls teams. As the Engineering Manager of this team you will be responsible for building and leading the team that will improve productivity across the organization by building automation tools and shared libraries that will be used across engineering teams.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Build and lead a highly effective team that will own the software architecture of Motion Planning and Controls and improve productivity of many engineering teams
  • Proactively identify gaps in engineering software development life cycle (SDLC) and system excellence. Work with other Engineering Leaders and Program Managers to create and own the team’s technical strategy and roadmap that is aligned with customers. Own the execution of the team’s roadmap
  • Foster a culture of collaboration in your team and work with domain engineers in Motion Planning and Controls to identify pain points of development and testing. Collaborate with Frameworks and Data Infra teams to build and deploy tools to improve productivity
  • Mentor engineers on the team and play a key role in their professional development
  • Participate in design and code reviews

What you must have:

  • Experience managing a software engineering team in a production environment
  • Prior experience as a software developer/architect (C++)
  • Experience developing scalable software solutions that will be used by a dozen developers
  • Experience developing automation scripts (Python and Bash scripts)
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Bonus points!

  • Practical familiarity with closed-loop control systems, numerical optimization and/or signal processing
  • Familiarity with ROS, numpy & scipy, Python bindings for C++, and plotting/visualization libraries
  • Experience in code optimization or high performance computing
  • Experience with time-series data analysis and online performance monitoring tools
