SUMMARY

The Civil Engineer is responsible for the site development and land use design of PV and ESS projects as well as providing technical expertise in the construction of distributed energy generation.  This role requires a civil engineer with experience in site use permitting, design, and construction including strong knowledge and expertise in stormwater design, SWPPP preparation, and BMPs. The Civil Engineer will work closely with the Construction, Business Development, and Design Engineering teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and manage relationships with a network of engineering consultants for the solar plant life cycle, including origination, design, construction, and O&M
  • Manage 3rd party engineering consultants responsible for performing details civil engineering, surveying, and landscape architecture design product
  • Provide technical support to Nexamp development, engineering, procurement, construction, and O&M departments for the entire life cycle of a project including development, permitting, construction, and asset management phases
  • Provide value engineering recommendations through project life-cycle to drive cost reduction while maintaining standards for code compliance and industry best practices
  • Project Development
    • Perform site visits for project assessment and feasibility
    • Provide cost estimating support to the Nexamp Estimating team
  • Engineering
    • Review designs for roads, grading, foundations, culverts, swales, erosion control barriers, sediment control BMPs, detention basins, secondary containment, seeding, plantings, and wetland replication
    • Review and analyze Stormwater Management Reports
    • Manage civil design reviews along with the project Design Engineer
    • Develop civil engineering design standards, drawing/detail libraries, specifications, and procedures
    • Support training of engineering department personnel, as well as new product research and implementation
  • Construction
    • Site observation visits and SWPPP inspections
    • Respond to RFIs and urgent field issues
    • Provide engineering dispositions by answering questions and requests
    • Confirm adherence to construction specifications verifying calculations and placements
    • Engineering review and approval of construction specifications and detailed design
  • Travel up to 25%
  • Additional duties as assigned and/or directed

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic, self-motivated, hands-on, results-oriented, and a team player. Key qualifications as follows:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • EIT required, PE preferred (or ability to obtain same)
  • 4+ years of civil engineering design experience
  • 2+ years of federal, state and local permitting experience
  • 2+ years of construction support or supervision experience
  • AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD/SWMM software proficiency
  • Proficiency with MassDEP Stormwater Management Handbook
  • Familiarity with land related issues, construction site grading requirements, cut/fill estimates, geotechnical analysis, wetlands, road requirements, ROW requirements
  • Experience with cost estimation
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and present designs to local officials, business developers, project managers and engineers
  • MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software proficiency
  • Strong knowledge of industry standard design codes
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks
