The Plant Controller is responsible for the organization, direction, and controls over all financial aspects of the manufacturing plant. This includes all cost accounting, A/P, A/R, payroll, and general ledger activities. The Pant Controller is responsible for organizing, developing, and presenting useful information to management for decision-making purposes. They will focus on interpreting results, making recommendations, understanding overall business needs, at the same time emphasizing change management with a strategic orientation.  

The role

  • Supervise, review and interpret month/quarter/year-end financial reports as well as month-end close processes to support the business unit and corporate
  • Manage the annual budget, month and quarterly forecasts, and financial comparisons and explanations of actual results versus the financial estimates
  • Direct and control all accounting activities associated with the accurate recording and reporting of costs of manufacturing for individual products and performance (cost and profitability) on a product line basis.
  • Analyze and interpret operating and financial results to identify trends and activities driving those results and make recommendations on potential changes, both operation and financial in nature, to improve performance
  • Develop cost data for the justification of capital asset purchases as they relate to operation’s cost savings.  Assist in the audit process of capital purchases and prepare reports regarding the results of capital projects
  • Analyze balance sheet for key accounts, including inventory.  Prepare and/or approve account reconciliations
  • Manage the integration of operations finance related accounting processes, policies and procedures constructively challenge current processes to continually improve.
  • Support external audit activities and compliance to Lucid Accounting policies and internal controls
  • Train and mentor team members
  • Actively participate and/or lead cost take out initiatives
  • Build organizational capabilities with a continuous improvement focus
  • Build business acumen & partnership across the business unit
  • Act as a safety leader and put safety first in all responsibilities, promoting an environment where each employee makes safety their first priority

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required, or the equivalent of ten years of progressive operational accounting experience. 
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Master’s degree (MBA) strongly preferred
  • 5+ years management experience in manufacturing
  • Understanding of managing variances associated with MFG environment (variance analysis, LCM, E&O etc.)
  • Ability to build a manufacturing finance organization
  • Ability to develop policies and procedures to meet government and internal needs
  • Automotive manufacturing experience preferred
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, start-up environment
  • Must possess a high degree of integrity
  • Strong communication and organizational skills to effectively interact with all levels of management
  • Ability to develop the capabilities of others and the organization, while finding satisfaction in influencing or even transforming someone’s career
  • Change leadership to transform and align an organization through its people to drive for improvement in new and challenging directions
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and deductive reasoning skills
  • Strong computer spreadsheet modeling and word processing skills (i.e. MS Office)
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply business management principles including strategic planning, personnel management and development and departmental budgeting
  • Time management skills including ability to prioritize and organize work to maximize efficiency
  • Knowledge of personnel management principles, including performance management and coaching
