Job Description

At Zoox we have set the goal to provide our customers with the highest level of safety while using our fully autonomous vehicles. You will work with a team of world-class engineers with diverse backgrounds such as robotics, control, and vehicle engineering, to test the vehicle with the goal to satisfy strength and durability targets. In taking on the durability role, you will work onsite at the Transportation Research Center (TRC) in Ohio managing long term proving ground durability testing activities. Working at a startup gives you the chance to manifest your creativity and make a big difference in the final product.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute physical durability tests including coordinating with a proving ground, arranging and preparing vehicles for testing, and managing day-to-day durability test operations. 
  • Support developing test procedures as needed, including duty cycles, operator instructions, inspection procedures, etc. 
  • Coordinate reporting of issues through an issue management system to the engineering organization and follow up with countermeasures.
  • Track status of physical testing and present to Program Management.
  • Support investigation of issues by coordinating with responsible design engineers, providing countermeasure solutions, and organizing additional measurements and/or testing if necessary. 
  • Generate engineering reports tracking the completion of durability testing, and detailing issues found, resolution status and countermeasures.
  • Report out regularly and at project gateways.
  • Act as a proving ground point person for Zoox for other testing activities.
  • Support other attribute testing activities in the proving ground and in the surrounding region.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of hands on experience in Durability Engineering.
  • Detailed understanding of Automotive Systems and typical failure modes.
  • Experience running physical durability tests.
  • Experience with instrumentation (accelerometers, strain gauges, wheel force transducers, string potentiometers, etc.) and vehicle level data acquisition systems.
  • Personable with the ability to lead and coach a high caliber engineering team toward world class levels of durability.
