Treau’s mission is to bring products to market that make people more comfortable, healthy, and productive while dramatically reducing carbon emissions of the built environment. We are looking for someone to be the architect for the control algorithms that run our heat pumps, taking advantage of our state-of-the-art thermal system design to deliver an unparalleled user experience. We strive to create a built environment that doesn’t compromise our natural environment, and are looking for someone to help us create the foundation for that future.

Responsibilities:

  • Create control architecture for Treau's thermal system to deliver cooling and heating with peak efficiency and a frictionless user experience across a wide range of conditions
  • Create and own control code repository
  • Test and validate algorithms in simulation, on prototype hardware in the lab, and in the field
  • Collaborate with thermal team to create dynamic thermal simulations
  • Select thermal sensors and actuators to be included in the product
  • Interface with software team to incorporate control algorithms into firmware
  • Collaborate with thermal design engineers to generate future architectures to create a well integrated electro-mechanical system

Requirements

Desired Qualifications:

  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical field, with coursework focusing on controls
  • 3+ years experience developing automated electromechanical systems (can include time spent towards MS or PhD degrees)
  • Strong background in the fundamentals of automatic control (PID, state-space based control, etc.)
  • Familiarity with optimal control techniques
  • Comfortable with the fundamentals of thermodynamics/heat transfer
  • Experience with Python and C/C++
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink or similar dynamic modeling software
  • Track record of solving open-ended problems through creative thinking
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer

Bonus Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in controls and/or thermal fluids
  • Knowledge of optimization techniques
  • Experience with stationary or mobile HVAC systems
  • Experience with CFD and multiphysics simulation (ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar)
