We are looking for an ambitious and experienced technology expert to join our team! In this role, you will be the technical expert for all applications of mechanical and adhesive joining, including automated screwing systems, inline assembly process control technologies, automated riveting and screw feeding, and dispensing systems applications.

Your experience and expertise will be called upon to develop all joining processes in use throughout the assembly of our Lilium Jet, from system subassemblies to the entire aircraft. You will follow a rigorous approach to establishing the correct process windows to meet engineering intent, create prototypes and qualification-grade hardware samples and data packages for technical approval, and create technical specifications for production equipment to be deployed into our factories.

Your Day to Day:

  • Develop a variety of assembly process including both mechanical and adhesive joining, selecting and qualifying automated technologies
  • Use a structured process to assess technical feasibility, producibility, and manufacturability of joining process technology applications on aircraft parts
  • Design and specify tooling, automatic machines, and robot end effector hardware, and inline process control methods
  • Create technical plans detailing tooling, process, process control methods, and sample characterization to support fixed process approval
  • Design jigs, fixtures, and control hardware as required to support prototype assembly process development
  • Write process and technical specifications for automated adhesive and mechanical joining equipment
  • Participate in engineering design tradeoff studies, advising the teams on most producible & reliable methods of joining based on component design and adjustments to component designs to enable automation
  • Develop a process parameter monitoring and control scheme in collaboration with production IT and automation teams
  • Support the definition of appropriate test sample geometry and test frequency to support technical plan per component or fixed process in collaboration with Engineering and Test functions

Your Profile:

  • Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Master’s Degree, or graduate of manufacturing apprentice program combined with Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience (5 yrs with PhD also acceptable) in automated manufacturing environments with a focus on automated mechanical joining; automotive and aerospace manufacturing environments a plus
  • Six Sigma DFSS/DMAIC Green Belt certification or higher
  • Strong technical expertise in multiple methods of mechanical joining and the means of identifying and controlling key parameters in high-volume manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrated experience developing statistical process control methods from initiation through factory deployment
  • Experience writing technical process specifications for equipment procurement, experience defining, procuring, installing, and commissioning automated joining equipment and qualifying joining processes under a standard framework
  • Excellent analytical capabilities, written communication, and verbal communication to solve problems with urgency and collaborate with varied technical audiences.
  • Experience developing and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with design teams and equipment manufacturers alike.
  • Passion for identifying, evaluating, and implementing new manufacturing technologies, preferably using an Agile approach to learn fast
  • Adept at working cross-functionally, especially with Design Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Program Management, and other cross-business functions.
