The Role:

The Process Engineer Inspection Technologies reports directly to the Head of Manufacturing Engineering Process Deployment and is responsible for developing and implementing advanced inspection technologies which will be used to assure quality for all manufacturing lines employed to construct the Lilium Jet.

You are recognized expert in inspection, up-to-date in the latest technologies available in the market and comfortable with finding and implementing inspection solutions that are robust, aerospace compliant, and tailored for automation.  You are an expert in industry-standard NDI technologies including IRT, LT, PT, and VT/OT. In this role, you will identify and apply the right automated inline inspection technologies across multiple processes including welding, permanent mechanical joining, machining, and composite manufacturing. You will act as a trusted expert in evaluating supplier technical data related to NDI technologies and conducting in-house tests for the purpose of qualifying inspection processes for series production.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • Select and qualify inspection technologies ranging from manual and automated visual inspection to infrared thermography and penetrant testing for integration into production lines
  • Support the manufacturing engineering community in deriving insights from inspection data and implementing solutions to improve product design and minimize non-value-add time
  • Independently evaluate supplier technical plans and support Lilium’s Supplier Quality Engineering team in qualifying suppliers using Nondestructive Testing methods
  • Perform inspections and qualification tests in support of both process qualification and design validation activities
  • Create a standardized library of operational procedures that define the usage and qualification of specific inspection technologies within Lilium’s production lines
  • Perform structured problem solving and root cause analysis activities following industrially proven methods e.g. A3, Apollo RCA, DMAIC, facilitating workshops as-needed

 

Your profile: 

  • Engineering degree in mechanical design, electronics, mechatronics or other engineering faculties.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in aerospace or automotive industry
  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt minimum required, NDT Level III IRT, LT, PT, and VT/OT highly desired
  • Deep experience focusing on the implementation of advanced inspection technologies into high-volume automated production facilities, strong background in automation of inspection
  • Proven track record of delivering on own technical responsibilities with or without the support of others, high sense of creativity to navigate organizational, technological, or logistical limitations
  • Demonstrated technical expertise with high sense of delivery, relentless learning, simplification, clear thinking, and emotional intelligence
  • Strong English technical writing acumen with proactive drive to share results and educate others
  • Software/IT skills: Siemens Teamcenter, ERP, MES, CAD (Siemens NX), High technical proficiency in Minitab or R statistical analysis, Excel, SQL, Python or other scripting languages
  • Excellent project management- and communication skills to unite and inspire stakeholders from different organizations
