Your role and your team: 

You will report directly to the Head of Mechanical Engineering. The Mechanical Engineering Team is responsible for designing and developing the structural components of our aircraft across the entire life cycle - from concept through detailed design, testing and serial production.

As a Lead V&V Engineer - Propulsion you will be part of the interdisciplinary IPT (Integrated Project Team) responsible for the development of our innovative all-electric propulsion system. You will be working directly for the leader of the IPT. The propulsion system consists of 36 electric engines within the vectoring flaps which are used to propel the aircraft in different flight phases.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • Provision of verification and validation (V&V) expertise to the teams responsible to the various elements of the propulsion system
  • Management of the Propulsion Team V&V engineers
  • Coordination and capture of propulsion system requirements for V&V with other aircraft IPTs and the Chief Engineering office
  • Overall definition and management of the propulsion system rig test programme to ensure appropriate TRL for Lilium products
  • Definition of the qualification and certification test programme necessary for the certification of Lilium products to include
    • Proposing and negotiating means of compliance to certification requirements with the certification authorities in conjunction with Lilium airworthiness and certification specialists
    • Coordination with the Test department to secure appropriate test facilities on or off site to enable the test programme to be carried out on time
    • Definition of hardware requirements for tests and coordination with Procurement, Lilium manufacturing and assembly
    • Definition of propulsion system flight test requirements
    • Definition of ground and flight test instrumentation requirements
  • Driving the certification test programme to a timely and successful conclusion in conjunction with Propulsion Programme Management and the Test department
  • In conjunction with the IPTL and Airworthiness/Certification, present and negotiate test results with the Airworthiness authorities
  • In conjunction with the IPTL, Propulsion System leaders and the Certification team, drive the timely generation of certification reports.
  • Constantly learn new things – and share them with your team members
  • Work on any ad hoc related projects or tasks

 

Your Profile:

  • University degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics (aerospace specialization, MSc/M.Eng preferred)
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in aviation propulsion including a minimum of 7 years in propulsion system development management at a senior level
  • Ability to operate successfully in a matrix organisation
  • Proven ability to drive a programme to a successful and timely conclusion
  • Ability to propose and rapidly react to development and certification issues and to develop innovative solutions
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Understanding of aircraft or aero propulsion certification requirements and the certification process
  • Strong motivation to help build structures and processes is required
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously is required
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills is required
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment is required
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language is beneficial
