As a venture funded start-up, Root is expanding a foundational team of passionate and talented professionals. Every team member is critical and every decision we make matters.

We are seeking an Engineering Project Manager to drive planning, project execution, and development for a fast-paced, interdisciplinary technical team dedicated to building a more sustainable world with technology. This is a foundational role for the company that offers a unique opportunity to work in tandem with the CTO to shape our technical development process and the team culture as we scale.

Responsibilities

  • Work with interdisciplinary teams such as Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Computer Vision, Perception, and Deployment, to create comprehensive program plans
  • Determine project scope, duration, costs and risks; take responsibility to oversee projects from beginning to end
  • Coordinate and facilitate resources to mitigate risks and keep projects on track, within budget
  • Help prioritize programs and projects based on changing functional needs, capacity constraints, risk exposure, and interdependencies
  • Establish standard reports to provide effective communications to key stakeholders on program status, issues, and accomplishments
  • Maintain high level of communications with cross-functional team, vendors, and executive team
  • Assist and participate in system architecture discussions and trade-offs; support new product introductions to manufacturing and customer installations

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering project management
  • Strong technical background with a BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex technology projects with aggressive schedules and evolving product requirements
  • Well-organized and analytical mindset, solving problems with the big picture in focus
  • Excellent communication with a talent for translating complex technical issues or ideas to a wider audience
  • Capability to clearly and concisely document processes, then apply continuous improvement
  • Ability to foster and build a collaborative working relationship with various stakeholders
  • Solid working knowledge of Agile/scrum and related development processes
  • Proficient with the tools required to manage complex projects (i.e. JIRA/Atlassian)
  • Demonstrated ability to move seamlessly between levels of abstraction, from system to detailed implementation
  • Commitment to rigorous testing and validation practices, with unrelenting customer focus

At Root AI, we are looking for people with the passion and grit to drive lasting, meaningful change. You are encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. Diverse perspectives, rigorous & independent thinking, and unexpected career pivots are exactly what we need to change the status quo.
