Job Description

Impossible Foods is addressing the most catastrophic threats facing humanity: climate change and biodiversity collapse. A global transition to a plant-based food system will turn back the clock on atmospheric CO2 levels, restore natural ecosystems and reverse meltdown in wildlife biomass.
The easiest -- if not only -- way to make our civilization sustainable is to eliminate livestock, the most dangerous technology on Earth. But humans won’t give up meat. So we need to make meat better -- more delicious and more nutritious, without animals as the underlying production technology. That means that making meat sustainably is the most important and urgent problem for the global scientific community.
Impossible Foods' mission is to completely replace the use of animals as a food-production technology by offering consumers everything they currently value about animal products -- and making products that are vastly superior to their animal analogues.
To do this, we are taking a revolutionary scientific and market-based approach. We are inventing efficient, sustainable ways to transform ingredients from plants into meat, fish and dairy foods that deliver all the pleasures and nutritional benefits consumers demand, without the destructive environmental or public health impact.
Our world-class R&D team has been building the know-how and technology platform to produce meat, fish and dairy foods from plants. Impossible Foods is experiencing rapid growth and is resolutely committed to leading all aspects of the plant-based food revolution—from discovery to commercial production. The only thing that will separate Impossible Foods from success and failure is our ability to recruit more world-class experts.

Impossible Foods is looking for a motivated, mission-aligned leader to inspire and guide the creative vision for the company. They will lead our talented in-house team of creatives, guide the creative development with external agencies, and ensure a consistent look and feel and tone of voice with external food and retail partners.  The VP Creative will be the primary person responsible for the look and feel of the Impossible Foods’ brand, reporting to the SVP Marketing and working closely with the CEO. (Our CEO and founder takes a very hands-on role in shaping the brand, which is playful, optimistic and fearless.)
This is a VP-level role, and the ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in creating and/or growing a strong brand during rapid growth of the business. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping to determine how our brand looks and is perceived by the public -- including restaurant owners and diners, grocery store chains and shoppers, e-commerce shoppers, social media fans, press, investors and everyone else on Earth. The role requires someone who can flex quickly between tactical, hands-on design and bigger-picture, strategic discussions about our evolving brand and business as needed.

You Will:

  • Have a creative vision that has the power to spark a broader movement around the Impossible mission.
  • Bring to life the corporate, product, scientific and cultural stories that set Impossible Foods apart from every other company in the world
  • Develop creative concepts and integrated campaigns with pitch-perfect brand alignment across a broad range of problems and media, including advertising, print, video and broadcast, interactive, web, DM, and social networking, retail communications and channel POS
  • Solicit and implement advice from a wide variety of employees across all functions, from the CEO to our world-class scientists; you will never work in a silo
  • Spread enthusiasm about design, inspire creativity in our team and cultivate the career development of your team of art directors, designers, copywriters and producers
  • Work effectively and efficiently, including on tight deadlines and without drama or ego, at a dynamic startup whose strategic priorities may shift to capitalize on unexpected opportunities
  • Do “whatever it takes” to get the job done, including urgent projects and cross-functional collaborations with agencies or other companies that don’t necessarily share the same mission as Impossible Foods
  • Take a particularly hands-on role in translating business strategies and KPIs into excellent creative concepts and on-time, on-budget deliverables; set art direction and ensure that our brand book is fresh, relevant and easy to execute; play a lead role in all aspects of the company’s visual identity -- including video shoots and web development, social media, photoshoots, storyboarding, collateral and presentations
  • Actively participate in the marketing leadership team and Impossible’s management team.

You Have:

  • 12+ years of wide-ranging, hands-on design, directing, production or other experience in a relevant role at another company or agency
  • An understanding of what it means to build a brand at a mission-driven company in an all-new product category
  • Strong experience growing valuable consumer brands through category creation and/or global expansion
  • Fearlessness and optimism in the midst of a fast evolving company in hyper growth mode
  • A strong grasp of the creative development process, amazing storytelling ability, excellent art direction skills, and a stellar track record of consistently delivering excellent design
  • A professional, low-drama, collaboration-oriented demeanor; you actively seek out experiences to work with people from all different backgrounds and experience levels
  • A can-do attitude and willingness to be as tactical as needed in our fast-paced startup environment; while you enjoy strategic vision and direction setting, at heart you are a proactive problem solver.
  • A brain that’s part artist and part businessperson; you welcome the opportunity to roll up your sleeves (whether it’s turning multiple creative concepts around in one week, or it’s contributing to a pitch deck due in 24 hours). You are poised and confident whether you’re pitching a top-three global QSR in their HQ or working on deadline with our CFO on a deck for a pre-IPO fundraising round (and you know what all those acronyms mean!)
  • A desire to work with people who are driven to accomplish our audacious goals and also value kindness and empathy in their relationships
  • Fluency in major editing, writing and presentation apps, including: Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, Sketch, Keynote, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and others
