We are looking for an experienced Mechanical or Industrial Engineer that will lead the scale-up of our in house build and test capability. While Form Energy is growing, so does the quantity and size of our long-duration energy storage test vehicles. This role will focus on designing and implementing new manufacturing cells, improving or redesigning existing build and test processes.
The Industrial Engineer will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of technicians, engineers, scientists and our facilities team to enable a lean build and test workflow from basic component assembly to integrating sensor data into our data pipeline. They will use insights from the shop floor to inform better test vehicle designs.
The ideal candidate will have a strong intuition for mechanical and electrical design, hands-on shop-floor experience and will be highly motivated to improve our current processes and designs. They will be able to steer a project from design concepts to implementation as well as exhibit a desire to teach and strong communication skills both within the team and with external vendors.

What you'll do:

  • Own the design, build and implementation of custom assembly cells for our build and test processes.
  • Grow our current capability to meet our needs for future in-house assembly and test
  • Continuously Improve existing processes and infrastructure through smart automation and optimization of production and test schedules.
  • Collaborate with the facilities and infrastructure teams on new layouts and create work instructions.
  • Work with other engineers and can lead a small design team in the future.
  • Train others in new and improved processes and lead or participate in kaizen events.

What you'll need:

  • Degree in Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar field.
  • 6+ years of exp.
  • Solid working knowledge of relevant industrial mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Experience with mechanical CAD design of custom manufacturing cells or test systems.
  • Experience with infrastructure for test labs, prototyping spaces or small volume manufacturing cells and lines.
  • Experience with industrial automation hard- and software as well as communication protocols and standards.
  • Passion about lean, creating stable work and eliminating waste from all processes.
