About the role:
The Senior Engineering Manager is accountable for the strategy and execution of the Route Planning and Remote Assistance teams.
Route planning lives at the highest level of the car's autonomous stack and its job is to find discretization and abstractions that accurately capture the intuitive way humans think about driving at a lane level (what it means to be in a lane, what it means for a lane to be blocked, how to respond to unexpected events, how to describe intersections, turns, and lane changes, and the places where it's safe and legal to pullover and drop-off/pick-up passengers).
Remote Assistance is responsible for providing human augmented autonomous vehicle directives safely and in real-time; this involves creating intuitive and responsive UI/UX, establishing a safe and robust communication system with the car, understanding how planning and perception stacks work and how humans can augment car’s capabilities. This role includes setting high-level technical direction by working with Technical Product Managers to build project roadmaps, prioritize work and execute against those plans. This also includes building a world-class engineering organization capable of scaling as the company grows; this includes mentoring and growing strong engineering managers.
