Job Description

About us

At the forefront of farming and food, Memphis Meats is innovating new ways to produce real meat, without the need to breed, feed and slaughter animals. Our process begins with an animal cell, which is cultivated and harvested as meat. Memphis Meats is a mission-driven company focused on bringing to meat lovers an authentic product that is truly humane, sustainably produced, nutritious and delicious! We are now expanding our team of dedicated professionals across disciplines to make better meat for a better world.

About this internship

Excited about pushing the boundaries of how meat is produced? We are seeking a mechanical design engineer intern to support our team in bringing cell-based meats to production. You should be comfortable hand sketching and using CAD to design and communicate new concepts. You will then need to use prototyping tools and outside vendors to bring your designs to reality. You should be excited to work collaboratively with the diverse R&D team. They will rely on the designs that you have fabricated and tested to inform future development. You should enjoy the dynamic nature of startups and be prepared to work quickly on many different ideas at once. We hope to find someone creative and enthusiastic about learning, who enjoys hands-on work to be part of our growing team.

Duties include

  • Brainstorming new design solutions for unsolved problems
  • Designing parts in CAD (SolidWorks)
  • Fabricating parts and fixtures using in-house equipment (3D printer, laser cutter, drill press, etc.). This will be a very hands-on role!
  • Sending parts out for fabrication and coordinating with external vendors to ensure on-time delivery
  • Testing and characterizing components to validate their individual and system performance
  • Presenting your work to the larger team and explaining your ideas to people with different technical backgrounds

About you

  • Recent graduate or currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and experience building physical parts
  • Passion for the cell-based meats industry and mechanical design
  • Curious and resourceful, with a bias for action!
  • Excellent communication, organizational, attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Length of internship

  • 10-12 weeks
