About this internship

The intern will be working on a 10-12 week project that involves generating and characterizing new cell lines for the generation of a new cell-based meat product. You will be responsible for optimizing the culture conditions of various cell lines, and evaluating phenotypic and gene expression changes in the different stages of cell development. You should be capable of designing, troubleshooting, and executing experiments independently while employing critical thinking and organizational skills. This laboratory-based position requires routine tissue culture and molecular and cell biology experiments on a daily basis, followed by analysis and interpretation of the data, presentation of findings to the R&D Team, and suggestion of follow-up experiments. You should be enthusiastic, a great team player, and demonstrate initiative.

Duties include

  • Routine cell and tissue culture, and optimizing cell culture conditions for animal-derived lines
  • Performing cellular assays such as immunostaining, flow cytometry, microscopy, nucleic acid quantification etc.
  • Analyzing gene expression in various cell lines.
  • Design, set-up, and execute  experiments independently or with guidance from team/project lead
  • Organized data collection, management, interpretation, and presentation

About you

  • 4th or 5th year Ph.D. student in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering or closely related science. 
  • Experience in the maintenance of a variety of cell lines and transfection methods.
  • Experience in tissue engineering is a plus.
  • Experience with various cell-based assays (flow cytometry, viability, microscopy, immunofluorescence, growth assays) is a plus.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques such as RNA and DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR and cloning is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word. 
  • Detail-oriented and organized laboratory notebook keeping of experimental designs and results.
  • Fosters a team environment by collaborating scientifically with team members. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with tight deadlines.
