The Company

At Span, we are building products to drive the rapid adoption of renewable energy and enable a more modern, flexible grid. Span’s smart panel replaces the standard electrical panel to become the center for connected power in the home, providing intelligent load-balancing and revolutionary edge-of-grid controls through the Span mobile app.

The Role

In this role you will serve as a key technical member of the cross-functional Products & Applications Engineering team, with the mission to bring cutting-edge energy products to market. You will work at the intersection of the operations/deployment and engineering teams. Your scope of work will include translating product knowledge gained through deploying products in the field into creative solutions to improve customer experience, improve efficiency across Operations, and drive product excellence.

Members of our team are hands-on, team oriented, creative, and most of all highly passionate in driving adoption of clean energy at scale. Ability to apply technical reasoning to a variety of projects and processes is a must. Excellent written and verbal communication are a must.

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as technical contact for internal/external groups to articulate how Span’s products may be deployed in various applications.

  • Collaborate with field/install/service/engineering teams to come up with solutions for improving installation efficiency.

  • Manage new pilots and product integrations in the field and/or remotely.

  • Serve as a champion for customer and installer experience throughout product development lifecycle.

  • Develop relationships with Span’s installation partners to uncover areas to improve the installation and deployment experience.

  • Develop process documentation to support product evaluation and deployments.

  • Create technical documentation to guide installers on new applications of Span products.

  • Support sales team in reviewing site audit photos and giving install configuration recommendations.

  • Build single- and three-line diagram templates to support certified installers in site design and permitting.

About You

Required Qualifications

We are seeking someone who has:

  • BS in Engineering

  • 2 or more years of engineering experience

  • Project management and organization experience

  • Understanding of residential solar (PV) and/or energy storage system design

  • Creative, Passionate, Self-managed, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

  • Team-oriented personality

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar design software

Bonus Qualifications

We would love to hire someone who has:

  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and general electrical code guidelines for solar PV and energy storage systems, and/or building codes

  • Hands-on experience with electrical wiring, construction, or product development

  • Experience working with regulatory agencies (AHJs, Utilities) and/or building inspectors

  • Understanding of construction drawings
