Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Utah Clean Energy is seeking a smart, passionate, and engaging individual to serve as our Beneficial Electrification Manager, a new role within our organization that will lead and coordinate our transportation and building electrification initiatives serving Utah and the West. (Depending on experience, this position may be filled at the Senior Manager level.)

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:
•  Work with a diverse set of partners to inform, educate, and build support for beneficial electrification in Utah and the West, while nurturing strong and lasting relationships.
•  Develop and provide technical analysis and review of transportation and building electrification policies, statutes, and regulations at the state, federal, and local government levels, including savings, costs and benefits.
•  Convene and lead stakeholder meetings to advance electrification of transportation and buildings at a local, state, and regional level; make compelling presentations to policy makers, business stakeholders, community groups, and government representatives.
•  Collaborate with Utah Clean Energy’s multi-disciplinary staff to advance regulatory issues through the Utah Public Service Commission relating to beneficial electrification. Including drafting technical testimony and comments and participating in regulatory hearings as an expert witness.
•  Coordinate with Utah Clean Energy staff and community partners to ensure electrification policies and programs are developed to be equitable and inclusive for Utah consumers and communities.
•  Advocate for electrification programs and policies with the Utah State Legislature, state and local government agencies, business stakeholders, and the media, as appropriate.
•  Oversee outcome measurement and project management of beneficial electrification programs, as well as report on program activities to various funders and partner agencies.
•  Develop content for communications materials, websites, presentations, and blogs highlighting Utah Clean Energy’s beneficial electrification objectives.
•  Keep abreast of new and emerging technologies, business models, policies, and equity strategies relating to beneficial electrification.
•  Build strong relationships with funders, including foundations, government agencies, major donors and businesses to support Utah Clean Energy’s beneficial electrification work.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ideally, applicants should have 5+ years' experience working on transportation and/or building electrification issues for a consulting or research firm, nonprofit organization, or government agency. Master’s degree preferred in environmental-related fields, including public policy, environmental
studies or management, sustainability, engineering or economics. Relevant experience will be considered as a potential substitute for graduate-level education.

In addition, we are seeking candidates with the following qualities:
•  Passionate about mitigating the climate crisis and creating a clean and equitable energy future for Utah and the West.
•  Excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills, with the ability to rapidly assimilate and synthesize information.
•  Experience working with complex spreadsheets to analyze data and extrapolate policy impacts.
•  Experience considering the impacts on and incorporating perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color and low-income communities, in analysis and decision making.
•  Experience with electrification policy and regulatory processes in the transportation and building sectors, or demonstrate the ability to quickly become proficient in these areas.
•  Demonstrated collaboration, networking and relationship-building skills with business and government, business, and community leaders.
•  Strong ability to lead stakeholders and coalitions toward a compelling vision of an electrified future, while maintaining respect for and understanding of various positions.
•  Highly organized and self-directed, with the ability to work independently, while being flexible in a fast-paced, collaborative, and evolving environment.
•  Desire to be a part of an influential team of professionals, who embrace high quality, impactful work, and a healthy work-life balance.
•  Eager to take on a wide variety of tasks and help with all aspects of a small nonprofit organization, including nurturing relationships to support continued growth of the electrification program.
•  An understanding of (or interest to learn about) the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities, and a desire to advance beneficial electrification solutions that uplift these communities.

COMPENSATION: Salary range for this position is $65,000 to $90,000 and is a full-time exempt position. Salary is dependent on relevant and demonstrated experience, with most candidates starting under or close to the mid-point of the salary range. (Depending on experience and qualifications, this position may be filled at a Senior Manager level, at the mid to upper level of the salary range.) Utah Clean Energy’s benefits package includes health insurance, 403(b) retirement plan contributions, life & disability coverage, paid vacation, sick, holiday, and parental leave. This position also provides the opportunity to work in a relaxed environment close to recreation opportunities in Utah.

This position will be based in Salt Lake City, Utah. For the time being, Utah Clean Energy employees are encouraged to work remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
