Job Description

The OVO Group’s purpose is to drive progress towards net zero carbon living. To reach Plan Zero, we need everyone to come together - not just as customers buying energy, but as members with a common goal. As part of this ambitious plan, our goal is to become the ‘Leading Employer in the UK’ by 2030. If you think you could be the talent we’re looking for, then come and join the adventure!

We launched in 2009 with a mission to change energy for the better. Since then, we’ve welcomed over a million members, planted a million trees, and set our sights on helping save the planet.

Did you know that your home is responsible for 28% of your carbon footprint?  If we want to reach net zero emissions then every household in the country is going to need a lot of help to reduce its impact on emissions.  OVO is ready to provide that help.

This role is in the OVO Energy and Smart Home team.  The team is responsible for the OVO brand, the customer proposition and experience and the commercial outcomes..

Green energy and technology are great tools to fight the climate crisis with. But it’s people power that will rewrite history.

So we’re building a zero carbon team inside and out. Of people who share our values, feel inspired by our mission, and want to make change happen. When you work for OVO, it’s not just a job. It’s the work of a lifetime.  And we want the sharpest minds to help.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

Reporting to the CEO of Energy and Smart Home, this is an exciting and challenging opportunity to sit across strategy and operations.  You will lead on the delivery of strategic projects as well as enabling the leadership team to deliver those strategies.

Yes, this role will look at the bigger picture, understand the customer and potential new markets...but it is also in the details of how we deliver on a week-to-week basis, managing the operating cadence of the leadership team, delivering cross-cutting deliverables and constantly looking to implement improvements.

What will I be doing?

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the scoping and development of multiple strategic projects for the customer and commercial functions of OVO.
  • Leading annual strategic planning processes for customer and commercial functions of OVO.
  • Supporting the leadership team and making it as high functioning as possible, including goal setting and managing key ceremonies including weekly and quarterly meetings.
  • Taking ownership of specific deliverables that cut across our highly matrixed, agile structure

You will be the only person doing this role which means you should always get the most interesting and complex projects.  You will also be responsible for assembling and leading virtual teams when the problem is not something that you can solve on your own.

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you have and/or are:

  • You are a scientist at heart.  Not a climate scientist or a behavioural scientist (although both of those could help!!!)...but you are someone who believes in the importance of data, testing hypotheses and a constant search for a better way.
  • You have experience delivering strategic analysis and recommendations...and also been able to manage recommendations through to completion.  Top-tier management consultancy is a bonus.
  • You enjoy team dynamics and are great relationship builder with strong interpersonal skills
  • You have excellent project management skills with a proven track record
  • You have a strong ability to influence key stakeholders, working cross-functionally
  • You have excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

OVO believes in fueling human progress with clean and abundant energy for all. We were set up to always find a better way and challenge the status quo.

We want the best people

At OVO, we empower our people to have choice around where and when they work - flexible working arrangements can be discussed for all of our roles. Please speak to the Talent Acquisition team for more info.

We’re keen to meet people with varied backgrounds - our view is the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. We want to build teams which represent a variety of experiences, perspectives and skills, and we recognise talent on the basis of merit and potential.

We understand some people may not apply for jobs unless they tick every box. If you're excited about joining us and think you have much of what we're looking for, even if you're not 100% sure… we'd love to hear from you.
