Joyn Bio is a joint venture between Bayer and Ginkgo BioWorks dedicated to addressing unmet needs in agriculture by applying synthetic biology approaches to engineer microbes.
Objective
This contract role is responsible for testing formulations of leading strains in greenhouse environments.
Responsibilities
The contractor Research Associate will be responsible for testing the in-planta performance of new formulations of our asset strains in the greenhouse environment.
Ensure effective applications of formulated products, plant tissue sampling, and data collection.
Collaborate with multiple teams in Plant Science to facilitate greenhouse assays and lab activities.
Regularly monitor plant growth daily, keeping logs of observations.
Assist with preparation of plant materials and QC of formulations being tested.
The contract position requires at least 85% of the time spent at the laboratory bench, and 15% of the time documenting and implementing the project plan.
Training/Experience
0-3 years of controlled environment, plant science and/ or microbiology experience.
A BS degree in agronomy, horticulture, plant physiology, plant science, microbiology etc.
Basic knowledge in experimental design and execution in greenhouse.
Work experience in plants and/or microbiology.
Willing to take on challenges as learning opportunities.
Strong communication and collaborative skills are required.
Organizational
This is a 12 month contract position through a partner agency.
This position will report to a Scientist in Plant Science at our Woodland, CA site.
This individual will collaborate with Joyn Bio Departments across sites.
