Director, Embedded Software Engineering

What You Will Be Doing

ChargePoint is looking for an outstanding engineer interested in applying creativity and a broad skill-set toward building cutting-edge firmware for a next generation vehicle charging platform. You will work independently on design, implementation, and testing of embedded firmware on small-scale RTOS microprocessors, within the greater eco-system of Linux based, internet connected, high power electronics.

  • Develop and support embedded firmware for RTOS based devices, within a larger Linux eco-system, for the control of high power electronics
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and globally with hardware and cloud engineering teams to define specifications, features, and APIs
  • Contribute to the future of enabling an EV revolution in our society

What You Will Bring to ChargePoint

  • Experience and knowledge of embedded software, (preferably within a power electronics device), at the bare-metal / RTOS scale
  • Passion for shipping products to mass-market
  • Enthusiasm for working with distributed teams
  • Ability to understand system-wide implications of electronic design and software integration

Requirements

  • B.Eng, B.Sc or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • 5 years experience in developing embedded firmware using C & C++
  • Extensive experience coding for RTOS and bare-metal systems at the register-access level of microprocessors (ARM preferred)
  • Experience implementing and debugging communications profiles such as CAN, SPI, I2C, ModBus. etc
  • Familiarity using Linux as a development environment, including shell scripting
  • Experience with software build tools, source control systems, and data management tools, namely gcc, git and Atlassian
  • Confident ability to understand circuit schematics, and apply working knowledge of electronics in the bring up and debug of PCBAs
  • Comfortable and familiar using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, protocol debuggers, DVMs, soldering irons and home-build dev-kits 
  • Pro-active, communicative self-starter, previous experience co-operating with remote teams
  • Ability to work with remote teams effectively and complete tasks/projects with minimal supervision

Nice to have

  • Personal interest in embedded software projects, such as Arduino, Rasp Pi, Nucleo etc
  • Working within Agile/Scrum, Jira based process
  • Linux application development
  • Python, bash, Yocto, rootbuild
