Job Description

Indigo’s Bioprocessing and Formulations groups are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team and assist in the development of microbial based agricultural products that increase crop yield and improve stress tolerance using organisms isolated from the plant microbiome. The Laboratory Technician will be a part of the development of stable and robust seed treatment products by assisting in the fermentation, downstream processing, and preparation of microbial products. Tasks may include:

  • Set up and sampling of bioreactors
  • Preparation of formulated products for Field Trial testing
  • Biological stability data collection
  • Microbial plate counting
  • Preparation of buffers and media
  • Weighing and labeling of reagents
  • Stocking of lab supplies and cleaning of lab equipment

The candidate should possess a general understanding of microbiology and chemistry and be able to utilize their knowledge for practical, laboratory tasks. This is a hands-on, laboratory-based position and the candidate will work in collaboration with other scientists and engineers to carry out their work. The candidate will be a part of both the Bioprocessing and Formulations groups and will provide support to both groups.

The ideal candidate for the Laboratory Technician will be knowledgeable and has practical, hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Laboratory microbiology, aseptic techniques, and general lab safety
  • Wet chemistry skills including preparation of buffers, media, or multi-component formulations
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfortable operating lab equipment
  • Assembly and operation of bioreactors as well as downstream processing techniques
  • Agricultural seed applied products
  • Standard word processing and spreadsheet software
