Indigo’s Bioprocessing Group is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team and assist in the development of microbial based agricultural products that increase crop yield and improve stress tolerance using organisms isolated from the plant microbiome. The Laboratory Technician will be a part of the development of stable and robust seed treatment products by assisting in the fermentation, downstream processing, and production of microbial products.

The candidate should possess a general understanding of microbiology and chemistry and be able to utilize their knowledge for practical, laboratory tasks. This is a hands-on, laboratory-based position and the candidate will work in collaboration with other scientists and engineers to carry out their work. The candidate will be a part of the Bioprocessing Development team

 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare microbial media, assay reagents and materials for upstream bioprocessing group
  • Clean and sterilize glassware, maintain lab-scale bioreactors and associated equipment
  • Maintain and take ownership of laboratory cleanliness and organization
  • Interface with facilities and procurement teams to maintain inventory of lab supplies
  • Assist the team with execution of lab-scale process development experimentation
  • Assist the team with characterization of microbial cultures via quantitative microbiological and molecular assays, microscopy, flow cytometry
  •  

Competencies:

  • Strong microbiology skills and experience enumerating bacterial and/or fungal samples using CFU plating
  • High attention to detail, organized, and a willingness to learn
  • Proactive with self-prioritization and problem solving, able to work independently
  • Effectively manages complexity and change; experience in a startup environment is a plus
  • Demonstrates a track record of high integrity - doing the right thing, owning mistakes, conducting oneself honestly
  • Communicates and interacts with others with high levels of transparency and respect
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and possesses a desire to continuously improve
  • Understand and embody Indigo’s mission & core values

Qualifications:

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, microbiology, biotechnology or a related field with 0-2 years’ experience in a laboratory environment
  • Experience with aseptic technique and basic wet lab equipment required
  • Experience interpreting and following written laboratory protocols, recording and interpreting data
  • Proficiency with computer-based data management and Microsoft Office
  • Experience operating autoclaves, laboratory glasswashers, and media preparation equipment a plus
