Senior Commercial Market Analyst (JP)

Your role

The role of the Senior Market Analyst covers the detailed analysis of all renewable technologies and several commodities (power, fuels, CO2, green certificates) in all core and future markets of RWE Renewables in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The main focus of this role is on the Japanese market and includes Renewables auction modeling and analysis for Offshore wind power.

Furthermore, the role comprises the identification, analysis and quantification of new revenue streams coming from e.g. generation of portfolio effects. The position requires a high affinity for numerical work, handling of large amount of data (and can therefore also include programming tasks) as well as stakeholder management capabilities. You will be part of a highly dynamic, international and geographically diverse team which comes along with occasional international travel, working remotely and demonstrating a pro-active and autonomous approach to work.

Your future plans

• Leading the collection, preparation and analysis of all relevant commercial inputs for renewable energy business models in Japan with focus on power prices, market values / captured prices, asset curtailment and ancillary services as well as subsidy revenues
• Actively driving engagement in arm’s length discussions with Joint Venture partners, senior internal stakeholders and external industry bodies/associations (e.g. the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), ensuring commercial topics are suitably addressed within project development and the domestic clean energy transition in Japan on a broader level
• Driving bidding strategies in various auctions (e.g. Offshore wind Feed-in tariff auctions and other RES technologies etc.)
• Understanding the changing regulatory framework and energy market in Japan and quantifying the effects on the various revenue streams e.g. the switch to the feed-in premium subsidy mechanism and the opportunities in the growing power exchange (JEPX) across all 10 regions
• Supporting Strategy and Regulatory Affairs team to reflect current and future market and regulatory scenarios for long-term strategic planning
• Supporting Asia Pacific (APAC) wide market analyses and commercial evaluation of new technology solutions such as Hydrogen and Battery Storage
• Ad-hoc market analysis reports (e.g. in case of significant market events)

Your profile

• Degree in an analytical / numerical subject, preferably Engineering, Economics, Statistics or Mathematics and appropriate professional working experience including quantitative analysis
• Affinity with renewable energy space and knowledge of power markets, especially in Japan with previous experience regarding the economics of power sector (e.g. revenues from support mechanisms, curtailment risks)
• Strong skills in managing a good relationship with business partners and other external stakeholders as well as the ability to structure and present complex information adequately to a (senior) management-level audience (both written and verbal)
• Strong Excel skills i.e. should be able to use functionalities at an expert level
• Entrepreneurial spirit: highly proactive, identifying value opportunities and proposing solutions to them under own initiative
• Enthusiastic about learning and pushing technical limits and finding new solutions / out of the box thinking
• Fluency in English & Japanese languages mandatory
