Job Description
Here at Modern Meadow we are harnessing the power of design, biology, and engineering to produce biofabricated materials. As we continue to grow we are seeking to hire a driven accounting manager who will work closely with the Director, Finance & People to plan, execute and support initiatives in financial reporting, accounting and accounting processes and controls.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and ensure the integrity of the company’s accounting systems (including chart of accounts) and compliance with GAAP
- Manage month end financial close process (including proper review/maintenance of account reconciliations and accruals)
- Ensure timely preparation, distribution and review of monthly/quarterly financial statements for management and Board presentations
- Stay current on, research and document new accounting rules that will impact the company; research and support the company’s position on complex accounting matters
- Directly oversee the accounts payable function and implement AP automation solutions while serving as coach and mentor to AP staff
- Drive continuous improvements in the company’s accounting processes and financial/business controls (including those for the record to report, purchase to pay, order to cash, and plan to make cycles)
- Manage and support the annual audit process (including audit planning, preparation, support, close-out and ongoing improvements)
- Assist with the benchmarking and setting of various financial and/or operational metrics; help develop and maintain metrics and reports to assist with management financial oversight
- Ensure timely completion of ongoing statutory and other compliance reporting activities
- Partner with the Finance function to prepare and review monthly financial results and variances; and adopt strategies to influence operational behavior
Requirements:
- BS/BA in Accounting or Finance, CPA optional
- 4+ years of experience in industry, Big 4 accounting firm experience is a plus
- 2+ years of experience in a management role
- Solid knowledge of GAAP, accounting processes and controls
- Proficiency in technical accounting research and memo writing and financial reporting
- Experience with ERP systems
- Ability to learn new concepts and technologies quickly
- Ability to collaborate with and influence diverse groups and teams in a dynamic and changing environment
- Outstanding written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills including task prioritization and effective time management
- Excellent analytical skills demonstrating good judgment and problem-solving ability

- Tendency to ‘geek’ out a little when it comes to science!
