unu is an urban mobility brand based in Berlin. Our first product was the unu Scooter Classic, an electric scooter with portable batteries launched in 2014. Our products are sold both directly to consumers and business customers, making them accessible to everyone and resulting in fair prices by eluding dealership costs. In 2020, we launched the second generation of our scooter: The unu Scooter was designed in house and completely re-designed with our partners in Germany. The new scooter offers space for two people, as well as the largest storage space and one of the fastest acceleration values in the electric scooter segment.
After establishing a strong footprint in Germany, Austria and France, we are looking to consolidate our position as one of Europe's leading e-mobility brands. With already more than 70 creative, pragmatic and solution oriented team members, we are now looking for a Senior to Principal Product Manager – Vehicle, Mechanical & Hardware (m/w/d) to join the team in unu’s headquarter in Berlin. In this role you will be working directly with all of the mechanical parts of the scooter. You will join a team of other product managers that are working with scooter software/HMI, mobile App and more.

Your responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the unu Scooter hardware (all mechanical aspects of the scooter). You will ensure that the scooter lives up to users' needs and expectations including a great riding experience, high quality, and easy service.
  • Define product strategy and roadmap for vehicle hardware in close alignment with the overall product vision and related product lines.
  • Drive development and ongoing iterations in close collaboration with the engineering team, designers, quality management, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with UX specialists and product managers working on other aspects of the overall scooter user experience.
  • Manage prioritization and trade-offs among user experience, performance, manufacturing timelines and operational requirements
  • Develop and demonstrate expertise in the intricacies of putting a highly reliable vehicle on the streets - from the driving experience, to the design of each feature and function, to ensuring integrity of mechanical design and engineering
  • Ensure the product & features offer both customer and business value including pricing and costs analysis
  • Guide team processes and ceremonies as it relates to vehicle hardware development
  • Collaborate and navigate complex decision-making in an iterative environment
  • Work with Quality to Research and analyse product defects in the field, and prioritise issues we need to tackle together with QM
  • Be able to clearly define what is an acceptable product to go to user, from a quality & experience standpoint
  • Manage cross-functional meetings between engineers/quality to define improvements through engineering changes at contract manufacture

  • A rider-first mindset & the ability to develop a user-driven vision for the vehicle, in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of European mobility markets, the needs and desires of users in this market, as well as local trends and developments.
  • Have good “product instinct” (be obsessed with how and why other products work or don’t work from business, tech or design perspective)
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills, leveraging analytics, reporting, and analysis to inform decisions. Strategise analytically & creatively to formulate a viable product strategy
  • A solid track record of collaboration, with demonstrable experience working with internal teams, stakeholders, and external development & production partners
  • Demonstrable Understanding of design, vehicle engineering, and product development methodologies
  • The ability to translate business & user needs into concise and detailed requirements
  • The ability to prioritize demands based on business impact and the ability to defend those decisions
  • A self-starter mindset who thrives in ambiguous and rapidly changing situations
  • 4 or more years of vehicle engineering / PM in VE experience
  • 3 or more years practicing iterative, test-driven, and agile development principles
  • Experience working with physical product development and offshore manufacturing
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across multiple leadership levels, peers, product teams and business partners
  • Experience in high-tech industries & high-impact brands
  • High emotional resilience to deadlines with strong conflict resolution skills
  • Good to have(s): experiences on various manufacturing techniques (plastic moulding, welding and stamping etc), and a robust understanding of powertrain engineering, incl EV batteries, motor control, and integration methods between mechanical engineering and electronics
  • Good to have: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or related field. And a Masters in business or engineering
  • Good to  have: proficient in German in order to connect more easily to users in our main market. French would also be a plus
