About The Role:Bowery Farming is seeking a Controls Engineer to join our Robotics & Automation (R&A) team to support our full-time operations in Baltimore, MD, or Bethlehem, PA. The Controls Engineer will Report to the Vice President of R&A. The responsibilities include PLC programming, SCADA system development, process implementation, and optimization across multiple systems. The Controls Engineer will be involved with the design, commissioning, ramp-up, and operations of several farms. The Controls Engineer will support Facilities and Maintenance teams in preparing preventative maintenance and standard operating procedures documentation. This job also includes covering all locations across PA, MD, NY, and NJ.

What You'll Do:

  • Focus on the development of standards, standard operating procedures, preventative maintenance documentation, and the execution of research and development (R&D) projects.
  • Develop and operate the automated system at several locations
  • Monitor and improve the system's performance during several phases of production
  • Provide technical root cause analysis on automated systems and prepare potential solutions
  • Travel to existing and future farms to assist with operations and construction/start-up activities.
  • Manage vendors across mechanical, electrical and on-call contractors
  • Work cross-functionally with multiple teams to drive innovation throughout the company.

Who You Are:

  • You are experienced in Engineering (Controls, Automation, Electrical, Manufacturing, Warehouse Management, or Mechanical Automation)
  • You have experience leading and managing remote vendor teams
  • You have experience managing fast track design/build projects or multiple significant upgrade projects
  • You have experience leading Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of automation equipment
  • You have experience developing design documentation (functional specifications, operations manuals, mechanical and electrical schematics)
  • You possess the proven ability to read/write and troubleshoot PLC code (Omron, Allen Bradley, or Siemens) including ladder logic and structured text.
  • You have experience with motor control (ATL, Softstarters, and VFDs)
  • You have experience installing and programming HMIs (Rockwell, Weintek)
  • You have experience with installing, developing, and optimizing SCADA systems (Ignition)
  • You have experience with setting up local and cloud-based database systems with the ability to query
  • You have experience with AS/RS systems and other inventory-related robotics and automated systems
  • You have an understanding of Warehouse Execution / Management / Control Systems
  • You have the ability to read and write schematics using AutoCAD Electrical (3D is nice to have)
  • You have strong time management skills with a sense of urgency
  • You are a team player and work well with others in the face of challenges and a common mission
  • You have the ability to multitask and prioritize diverse tasks, hit hard deadlines, and know when to escalate issues that arise
  • Safety is your overriding priority and you think of safety first in every situation
  • You possess strong interpersonal skills – seen as a natural team builder
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 40%
