Job Description

At Volta we’re on a mission to accelerate the adoption of the electric vehicle. Volta's award-winning charging stations benefit brands, consumers, and real-estate locations by providing valuable advertising space to businesses and convenient charging to drivers. Strategically located in places consumers already visit, Volta's chargers are currently the most used electric vehicle charging stations in the United States.
As a Construction Project Manager, you will be responsible for your market’s charging station projects during the construction and closeout phase. You will provide partnership and cost estimate expertise as needed with Volta’s construction engineers during the design and permitting phases; you will oversee the bid, construction, and commissioning phases of every station in your market; and you will manage the utility construction process with local utilities. You will manage vendor relationships, constantly innovating and driving to reduce costs and time-on-site and to improve the constructability of a consistently evolving charging product.
The ideal candidate has an established track record managing infrastructure projects on schedule (up to thirty projects at one time across multiple geographic areas), while adhering to high quality and safety standards and demonstrating clear-headed problem solving and mastery of the tactical details for each project.
This is a highly independent role, reporting to the Director of Engineering and Construction of the region. We are looking for self-motivated and proactive individuals, who will drive all projects with a sense of urgency and are passionate about seeing their work manifest in the acceleration of a sustainable future.
This is a full-time role based in Boston, MA.

  • Manage the smooth progression of each construction project from the engineering and permitting phase into your ownership of installation and commissioning of the stations
  • You ‘own’ the scope, schedule and budget for your projects and are cognizant of cost implications and able to make recommendations which benefit the bottom line
  • Manage the financial plan by consistently evaluating the project budget; reviewing and approving construction bids and change orders throughout the construction process
  • Forecast, schedule deployment, and manage all components of highly complex installations
  • Provide support as needed to general contractors during all phases of construction
  • Evaluate new technology and help decide how we continue to improve our charging stations and the overall customer experience
  • Exercise ownership of not just individual sites but the overall portfolio of projects within your region
  • Keep all stakeholders aligned and aware on the progress of all station by submitting regular project reports
  • Conduct regular site checks to monitor progress and quality standards

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience (construction management or site development preferred) in managing multiple, simultaneous projects each with multiple contractors involved
  • Highly organized, with the ability to plan ahead and multitask in order to meet deadlines and keep projects under budget
  • Previous experience in construction management projects and knowledge of regulations and permits required
  • This position requires significant time driving, regular travel (50%-75%) is something you enjoy as you’ll be spending time on each site throughout the deployment and installation process
  • You are meticulous with project details and diligent in finding solutions, and can easily point to a track record of success in this area
  • Working in an environment that requires changing pace, redirecting your thinking, and embracing new procedures is exciting to you
  • You are scrappy and entrepreneurial and achieve results with far fewer resources than a big company would have
  • You are confident working remotely and operating independently
  • Valid driving license required
  • Acceptable driving history required for three years pre-employment, and continuing while employed

Bonus Points

  • Knowledge and experience with EV charging systems and electrical infrastructure
  • Prior work in telecom/solar/retail development
