Job Description

Location: London/Bristol

The OVO Group’s purpose is to drive progress towards net zero carbon living. To reach Plan Zero, we need everyone to come together - not just as customers buying energy, but as members with a common goal. As part of this ambitious plan, our goal is to become the ‘Leading Employer in the UK’ by 2030.

We launched in 2009 with a mission to change energy for the better. Since then, we’ve welcomed over a million members, planted a million trees, and set our sights on helping save the planet.

As a Group, we’re working to become a net zero carbon business by 2030, while helping our OVO Energy members halve their carbon footprints at the same time.

Green energy and technology are great tools to fight the climate crisis with. But it’s people power that will rewrite history.

So we’re building a zero carbon team inside and out. Of people who share our values, feel inspired by our mission, and want to make change happen. When you work for OVO, it’s not just a job. It’s the work of a lifetime. And we want the sharpest minds to help.

Up for the challenge?

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

OVO is in the process of transforming and scaling its energy business, to incubate a new business: residential decarbonisation service. The Propositions Team sits at the interface between the legacy business (energy) and the early adopter focussed Home & Drive businesses. The Propositions team’s mission is evolving, but currently includes:

  • The continued development and commercial success of OVO Beyond - a premium subscription service that brings your home’s carbon footprint to zero.
  • The creation of a major new pillar of the OVO Beyond proposition, members-only offers. A series of attractive benefits from within the OVO family, and outside, to bring new customers to Beyond.
  • TBC: the creation of OVO’s offering for highly engaged climate conscious homeowners. This is likely to be a “consumer owned renewables” service that allows consumers to invest in and benefit from the creation of new renewable energy generation.

What will I be doing?

The Product Marketing Manager owns the launch and lifecycle marketing of the products and capabilities their team is responsible for. This role is critical to deliver the business results (which the Product Manager has ultimate responsibility for).

  • Ownership:
  1. 4Ps. A simple document that explains the product (tied back to customer needs), price , promotion (marketing messaging), and position (where the product is available).
  2. Launch Plan. A document that outlines plans for the launch of new products or features (goals, timelines, competitor products, rollouts, etc).
  3. Lifecycle Marketing Plan. Same as above, for in-life products, likely with a longer calendar of activity.
Agree  Marketing Goals. Clarify the goals for launch marketing activity, and how they feed into product business goals (MAU, revenue, etc).  Set Pricing. Conduct consumer research and pricing tests to develop pricing. Also, work with the relevant teams to test options. Define Value Proposition. Support PM using research, and feedback from teams to define a product’s value proposition. Create Messaging. Commission new research, use existing consumer insight, and desk research to create product messaging. Also, work with the relevant teams to test options. Identify Marketing Opportunities. Work with marketing channel owners (for Owned (CRM, website, app), Earned (PR, influencer) and Paid (paid social, ATL, etc) channels) to identify opportunities to promote the service. Brief Channel Owners. Ensure that all channel owners (Earned, Owned, Paid) are informed about upcoming launches. Gather any feedback, and dependencies for channel activation. Deliver Marketing Assets. Commissions or create all relevant marketing assets, (e.g. case studies, videos, website copy and blog posts). Research Competitor Offerings. Maintain an updated view of similar or competing products available. Reporting on Marketing Performance Maintain and share accurate reporting on marketing activity. Competitor Analysis and tracking. Understanding the competitor landscape and gathering information on activity to share with wider team. Customer Insights. Bring customer data from around the organisation (marketing, consumer insight, sustainability) to support the process. Warm up channel teams. Share news about upcoming products and features with the marketing team. Gather feedback, considerations and insights that will help the Product Manager.

Ideally you will have:

  • Experience in a consumer marketing role, either agency or brand side, preferably for a strong, mass-market consumer brand, creating launch and lifecycle campaigns for new products and services.
  • The ability to translate consumer and market insights into compelling messaging and consumer-facing copy for campaigns in paid media, CRM, etc.
  • A demonstrable interest in sustainability and climate change is important, you don’t need to have worked in the industry, but you’ll be up to date on key topics.
  • Solid analytical skills, including a familiarity with building and maintaining basic dashboards in Google Sheets or Excel, and some experience in forecasting.
  • Preferably, a track record of working in a matrix organisation, where you collaborate with digital marketing, PR, CRM and other  teams to deliver your campaigns.
  • Preferably experience working with a digital product organisation, your key partner in this role will be a senior Product Manager.
