Job Description

SparkCharge designs, manufactures, and sells portable DC to DC charging systems for electric vehicles. We will ONLY consider candidates who meet the "Requirements" below. The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will be responsible for the following functions:

Responsibilities:

  • Designing new EV charging products, for various charging protocols, using your knowledge of switch mode power supplies (SMPS), power electronics and RF system design.
  • Contributing to electrical engineering challenges outside of power electronics; wear multiple hats.
  • Designing DC/DC and AC/DC boost converters and power electronic safety systems for medium and high voltage applications.
  • Actively coordinating the electrical design with the embedded and system design.
  • Validating designs through reviews, product testing, and detailed analysis.
  • Performing power and control simulations using software tools such as PSIM, MATLAB, etc.
  • Developing or improving BOMs.
  • Researching designs and making decisions based on components, topologies, control techniques, etc.
  • Working with UL, CE, SAE, CHAdeMO, CCS and other standards to ensure designs meet all requirements.
  • Performing other functions as required.

Requirements

  • Ten years’ experience working with electrical and mechanical engineers in a business setting. Start-up experience preferred. Academic experience is not sufficient, by itself, to meet the job requirements.
  • Experience with circuit board design and layout. High current, high frequency, and multilayer experience is a must.
  • Experience with various topologies including bidirectional, interleaved, ZVS, and other resonant converters.
  • Experience with choosing components for circuit boards.
  • Strong understanding of project cycles and how GANTT charts work.
  • Ability to get to work on time, participate on teams productively, and work with a high energy level during the workday.
  • Fluid expertise with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong academic qualifications—GPA above 3.4.
  • Multi-year experience at a business working in a power electronics role, with design responsibilities.
  • Experience working with batteries, battery packs, EVs, automobile design, and/or battery management software systems is very desirable.
