About Climate Central

Climate Central is a climate research and communications non-profit organization.  We provide a bridge between the public and climate scientists, contributing in a pivotal way to the national and international efforts to communicate the facts of climate change.

As an independent, non-partisan organization, Climate Central researches and reports the facts about climate change impacts, such as extreme weather, drought, flooding, wildfires, and sea level rise, as well as alternative energy systems and transportation. We are a non-advocacy organization and do not take positions on specific policies or technologies.

Internship projects

  1. Research, identify and compile a database on state-specific experts, media, agencies, organizations and key areas of interest to populate a regional database, and have the opportunity to sharpen writing skills by developing state-focused fact sheets and topic briefs.
  2. Learn about our tools for evaluating sea level rise and coastal flood risk and then use these tools to analyze the risk of coastal flooding to locations of public interest, such as schools, medical facilities, law-enforcement facilities, and more. Working with our team, the intern will incorporate their analyses into Climate Central reports and materials..
  3. Catalog Climate Central content on specific subjects such as agriculture; sports; environmental justice; renewable energy; and energy efficiency to support the curation of collections, such as Topical Toolkits.
  4. Help service inbound requests for Climate Central’s data products. This includes vetting requesting organizations to see if they qualify for non-commercial licenses as research and academic institutions. It also includes checking the requesting individuals to see if they are on U.S. Government sanctions lists (website) as required under U.S. export laws. Provided the request qualifies and is not restricted by export laws, fulfill the request using automated workflow software used by Climate Central. This operation will be closely supervised and supported by one of our science team members.
