Job Description

Camus Energy is a venture-backed software development company in San Francisco. We believe that creativity, innovation, and advanced software tools are needed to support the rapid decarbonization of electric grids globally. Our founders and partners are leveraging experiences from other industries -- including the founders’ pioneering work building Google’s global traffic management platform -- to address new opportunities on distribution grids.

By providing grid operators and load serving entities with advanced situational awareness, insight, and control, Camus Energy’s platform empowers industry leaders to safely and strategically manage a fast-changing grid environment. We are building an open source platform to enable the future Distribution System Operator (DSO).

The Role and Responsibilities

Business Development and Strategic Marketing are two of the fastest growing areas of focus for Camus Energy. The Business Development intern will play a critical role in identifying, diligencing, and engaging future customers and partners, with a focus on the electric cooperative and municipal utility sectors. Ideal candidates will have an entrepreneurial mindset and a blend of strategic and execution capabilities , working collaboratively with and reporting to our VP of Strategy. 

This is a cross-functional role in a small, lean team environment. The position will support our Product and Marketing efforts, while leading initiatives to enable strategic growth.. Additionally, as a small company, we expect everyone to have a share of "generalist" time.

In this role you’ll:

  • Lead customer segment analysis, identify relevant industry contacts, and contribute to diligence to support sales
  • Identify key conferences, events, workshops, and forums for Camus to promote thought leadership and network among priority stakeholders
  • Conduct competitive intelligence across the vendor and technology landscape and advance internal resources
  • Track and inform company leadership about industry trends with a focus on software adoption among utilities, load serving entities, and energy service companies
  • Research and communicate policy and regulatory developments influencing action in the grid management landscape
  • Liaise with prospects and prospective partners to understand their priorities, articulate our value proposition, and coordinate projects

About You

We are looking for an entrepreneurial person who enjoys solving ambiguous, complex problems and can drive customer growth through business development. Our ideal candidate will have experience working with electric utilities and/or distributed energy resource vendors. 

What we expect from you on the first day

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree (MBA preferred) OR relevant work experience in the energy / utility space
  • Able to commit to a 10-week (or 12-week) remote internship at 40 hours per week
  • 3-5 years of work experience in business development, sales, management consulting, and/or entrepreneurial projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to translate technology features into business benefits
  • Robust analytical skills, experience authoring analysis with spreadsheet-based tools
  • Enjoy working collaboratively with a diverse team of talented and fun people; also capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment

Bonus points for

  • Experience with enterprise SaaS solutions
  • Ability to make reasoned decisions in the face of uncertainty or imperfect data; a natural predisposition toward data-driven decision making
  • Aptitude to quickly come up to speed on new technology concepts and passion to evangelize a disruptive new approach
  • A strong leader, self-starter, and excellent teammate
