Job Description

Global Communications & Engagement Consultant is a contract position that will be responsible for developing and implementing the Amazon Sacred Headwaters Initiative’s global communications strategy. This position will work closely with working groups, regional communications coordinators, indigenous organizations and alliance members as needed to develop, implement, and amplify key messages to target audiences.  In addition, this position will support the production and dissemination of strategic communications geared at funders and philanthropists and governments to elevate the global profile of this highly biodiverse region and generate support for systemic and bioregional solutions proposed by this alliance. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES & TASKS 

The Global Communications & Engagement Consultant would be responsible for the following areas and key results.

  1. Global Communication strategy and media relations
  • Develop and implement global comms strategy and associated work plan(s) jointly with  regional communications teams and coalition partners.  
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the regional communication team, global communications working group, and indigenous organizations to prioritize and respond to opportunities and challenges.
  • Supervise web and social media firms, partners, PR consultants, etc as needed.
  • Identify target audiences, develop messaging and media strategies for each. 
  • Oversee english language content for global audiences based on content generated in Ecuador and Peru (e.g., press releases, blog posts, social media posts, videos, media kits, social media share kits, etc.).
  • Manage the English and social media platform and content.
  • Develop, maintain and update media relations contact list/database.
  • Coordinate media outreach around global Climate and Biodiversity Summits, Amazon site visits, delegations, etc and prepare and train spokespersons for global media opportunities. 
  • Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of social media channels, media content and use results and findings to improve the quality and impact of future strategies/content. 

  1. Strategic Communications to Funders
  • Support the production of communications tools (reports, updates, proposals, pitch decks, newsletters, webinars) that engage, update grassroots and institutional donors.  
  • Ensure or enhance the quality, consistency of materials, activities and messages shared with current and prospective funders. 
  • Highlight the achievements of the ASHI globally and the solutions in the 2030 bioregional plan.
  • Support storytelling and content for crowd funding and public fundraising campaigns. 

Work Experience / Qualifications

  • 6-7 years of relevant professional work experience in communication, print, broadcast, and/or new media and storytelling. 
  • Bilingual Language fluency in English and Spanish. 
  • Availability to work 30 - 40 hours per week
  • International work experience
  • Excellent framing, writing, editing, storytelling,
  • Expertise in social media campaigns, web content management, 
  • Excellent facilitation and project management skill and ability to effectively plan and meet deadlines
  • Experience in managing fundraising communications and strategies.
  • Past experience with Indigenous rights and forest protection is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to international gatherings and in region field trips.
  • Background/familiarity with designing campaigns in a multicultural context.
