UI Designer (Volunteer, Remote)

Note: The following is an opportunity for flexible, part-time, volunteer work to address climate change. Please DO NOT APPLY if you are only looking for paid employment. A 6-month commitment is requested. This is a remote-from-home position.

Earth Hero is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization with users in 153 countries. We exist to make it easy to act on climate change. The climate emergency we currently face requires adequate and immediate action. It is one of the most threatening crises of our time. To rise to the challenge, we help people discover personalized, positive steps to care for our shared planet, improve lives, and build a better future. We are looking for action-oriented individuals who are excited about addressing climate change. We are looking for people who will help build and scale our impact and at the same time are willing to roll up their sleeves to get stuff done! Responsibilities

• Lead on interface design for our mobile and web applications.
• Create new features or improve existing ones, mocking up prototypes in Figma.
• Collaborate with our product team to ship and improve features.
• Facilitate the work of other design volunteers.
• Work with user researchers to understand the needs of app users.

Experience useful in this role

• Designing and launching a mobile or web app as part of a team.
• Good knowledge of design patterns across platforms (Android, iOS, web).
• Building component libraries or design systems.
• Using modern tools for design collaboration and prototyping (Figma and Miro).
• Taking initiative, learning new things, and applying them independently.

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule. Roles work best with a minimum commitment of 6 months for 3 - 5 hours a week (or more if you like!). Because our all-volunteer team is around the world, we rely mostly on a combination of Slack and video calls to communicate.

If you possess a high level of self-motivation, work well independently, have strong collaboration skills, enjoy the opportunity to partner with like-minded individuals, and can commit quality time per week to help achieve team goals, we would love to hear from you.
