The company is backed by a diverse set of committed investors and we have raised over $100M to date.We are looking for a Battery Engineer to take a hands-on role in which you will plan, execute, and analyze electrochemical experiments that will advance our understanding and drive optimization of battery performance for long-duration energy storage systems. This role will support the rapidly expanding test capability at Form Energy and aid in the improvement of cell build and test procedures. With this expanded and refined test capability, you will help to integrate new materials for the cell, better understand cell degradation/failure mechanisms, and implement design changes geared towards performance improvement. As part of a team of experienced battery scientists, engineers, and modelers, this is an opportunity to have a direct and daily impact on the development of a unique battery technology designed to tackle climate change.

What you'll do:

  • Execute on key experiments to improve the understanding of cell performance under a variety of conditions
  • Analyze electrochemical data from constant current experiments, AC resistance measurements, chemical assays, and mechanical testing to draw conclusions and drive decision making
  • Make observations about cell performance and failures to guide mechanistic understanding of the system
  • Develop testing procedures that improve cell performance and lifetime
  • Identify opportunities to improve cell build and test procedures

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a lab environment (i.e. full time industrial position, internships, co-ops, undergraduate research experiences)
  • Familiarity with battery or electrochemical device data sets
  • Chemical synthesis, device assembly, or electrode production experience
  • Excellent organization, experimental documentation, and attention to detail
  • Chemical or Material characterization experience a plus
  • Experience with JMP/Matlab/Python a plus
  • An ability to lead through example in experiment execution
