The company is backed by a diverse set of committed investors and we have raised over $100M to date.Role Description We are looking for a process development engineer to support the development and scale up of a pilot production line. The pilot line will be focused both on: 1) research efforts to improve the performance and development of battery electrodes, and 2) scale up efforts to supply the electrode components at volume. The process development engineer will be directly responsible for efforts aimed at exploring process options to reduce product cost and implement material and formulation changes to improve product performance. The process engineer will need to coordinate with teams in MA and CA and support full scale battery development teams with electrodes for system builds and testing. Minimal travel (<10%) required. Work is approximately mixed 50% on site and 50% office/remote access.

What you'll do

  • Participate in commissioning new and upgrading existing manufacturing equipment.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership to achieve an incident free workplace.
  • Optimize production by researching, designing, and installing new hardware/software tools.
  • Observe and troubleshoot process equipment performance.
  • Direct the day to day activities of process technicians.
  • Documenting instructions for successful implementation of process changes.
  • Conduct manufacturing risk assessmentsIdentify and monitor relevant throughput and quality production. metrics Identify bottlenecks and operational challenges; propose solutions or strategies to overcome bottlenecks.
  • Analyze impact of process changes on critical product attributes.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; chemical, materials or mechanical engineering background preferred or 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience working in a materials processing or manufacturing setting; hands on experience with laboratory or pilot scale equipment.
  • Experience investigating, developing, and implementing new manufacturing processes and improving existing manufacturing processes.
  • Self-motivated and able to identify, assess, and solve problems independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects simultaneously and keep them progressing to completion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to teach and mentor co-workers on new methods and practices.
  • Experience using Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods to drive process improvements and controls.
  • Experience using DOE methods and JMP software is a plus.
