Job Description

We are looking for a Director of Business Development to drive the growth of Tomorrow.io’s business with international public sector (non-defense) entities and multilateral international development organizations .

The successful candidate will devise appropriate strategies to identify, qualify and close international funding opportunities with national and local governments and multilateral public sector institutions. The position will have strategic, tactical, and hands-on ownership of all aspects of new international government business acquisition, funding capture management and proposal development, submission and tracking.

What you'll do:

  • Identify, qualify, and capture a new business pipeline of opportunities focused on the international public sector and international development markets that support Tomorrow.io’s growth strategy
  • Bring from opportunity identification to close, multi-year R&D, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) based funding opportunities and contracts with governments, international development organizations and multilateral organizations
  • Understand and present the Tomorrow.io weather intelligence platform value proposition to key government and international development stakeholders
  • Determine the public sector and international development use cases and capabilities gaps that Tomorrow.io’s weather intelligence solution addresses
  • Be key member of our leadership team to develop Tomorrow.io's international partnerships portfolio
  • Build and manage complex multi-year, multi-stakeholder partnerships with international governments and large mutli-laterial international development organizations, including emerging markets
  • Work collaboratively across Tomorrow's business units to scope and augment transformative services for international development partners
  • Work with our NGO to ensure maximum/inclusive reach and impact of Tomorrow's services
  • Develop and maintain high level relationships with key prospective international customers, influencers and organizational leaders
  • Conduct extensive primary research to discover eligible funding opportunities
  • Identify potential teaming partners and build integrated teams in both the Prime and Sub positions
  • Research and understand the competitive environment at the regional, national and program level
  • Track the status of potential opportunities and be responsible for updating the status of all pipeline opportunities
  • Closely collaborate with cross-functional technical and business colleagues to qualify and respond to RFIs/RFPs

What it takes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Public Affairs or International Relations
  • 10+ years of enterprise software, data analytics or hardware business development and/or international development experience with at least 5 years of which is in the international public sector technology market
  • Highly-driven individual motivated by the opportunity to use weather intelligence and the Tomorrow platform to impact millions of lives
  • Experience in successful proposal development for multiple complex public sector institutions
  • Success driving new closed deals with total contract values greater than $2M
  • Knowledge of how the international public sector technology marketplace works
  • Success in building, managing and leveraging public private NGO partnerships
  • A demonstrated track record of building a successful qualified public sector deal pipeline and transitioning to capture
  • Proven capability to build relationships and grow accounts in international public sector and multilateral institutions
  • Experience evaluating and recommending key teammates and partners, along with determining a teaming strategy to optimize win probability
  • Understanding of international public sector and international development funding opportunity budgeting and acquisition processes
  • Strong analytical and verbal and written communication skills
