About the Role: 
The Regulatory Affairs Manager oversees all aspects of regulatory matters and certification related to raw materials, and finished products labeling compliance. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining policies and programs to execute the regulatory objectives of the company. Provides guidance and regulatory support to departments and assists with regulatory and certification-related customer inquiries.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and programs to execute regulatory objectives.
  • Interpret regulations; research, develop, implement, and review technical data for compliance.
  • Take responsibility for accuracy of, and regular review/update of, technical and nutritional data to ensure that the internal database is kept up-to-date with all substantiation documents.
  • Advise personnel regarding new governmental regulatory developments.
  • Provide regulatory mentorship to departments particularly during formula development.
  • Review and interpret regulatory rules as related to company products and procedures and ensure they are communicated to appropriate departments.
  • Maintain current knowledge of, and assure compliance with, existing and emerging regulations, standards, and guidance documents as related to TTB, IFRA, Kosher, Halal and Organic.
  • Responsible for reading, comprehending, and applying subject matter expertise to product labeling, food allergens, genetically modified foods, bioengineering, nutrition, organic and religious suitability (Kosher/Halal), FDA, USDA, Prop 65, etc. Communicate with the legal department regarding these as appropriate.
  • Provide consultation to the quality department in the audit process and issues involving regulatory authorities, participating and assist in the audits where necessary.
  • Advise Quality and Food Safety Managers regarding impact labeling changes on current regulatory approvals.
  • Maintain renewal of relevant permits and licenses.
  • Determine appropriate customs duty classifications.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • B.S. or Master’s degree in Food Science/Technology, or similar field of study.
  • 5+ years of related experience in regulatory management in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, scientific data, governmental regulations, and chemical hazard information and safety procedures.
  • Experienced in interpreting and preparing reports.
  • Must have the ability to report to any company facility according to company need, sometimes with same-day notice.

Details of Position:

  • Full-time/exempt position reporting to the Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance

How we are protecting employees from COVID-19
At Imperfect Foods, employee health and safety is our top priority. We have implemented processes and precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our facilities. We provide gloves, masks, and hand sanitizer to all essential employees who must report to work. Before entering our warehouse, employees have their temperatures checked. In addition, we take great care to ensure frequently touched surfaces are sanitized throughout the day and all warehouses are fully sanitized weekly.
We have also implemented an Emergency Sick Leave policy providing full-time and part-time employees 2 additional weeks of paid time off and up to 26 weeks paid leave if they have a confirmed case of COVID-19.
