Job Description

About the Job

The Education Navigator will provide a robust mix of outreach and recruitment, support service referrals, case management, academic and employment advocacy, and postsecondary exploration and bridging. The Education Navigator supports the CFET and Support Services department in the development of a postsecondary-going mindset and provides tactical support services to Corps Members and Students that require support services. The Education Navigator is a relationships expert able to create authentic relationships with Corps Members and Students and leverage community relationships to support Corps Members and Students toward important educational and support service outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct CFET outreach and recruitment with appropriate data tracking and services.
  • Provide support service referrals to Corp Members and Students in education, (secondary and post-secondary) income, housing, food, health care, transportation, childcare, legal, well-being, and pregnancy care.
  • Conduct bi-weekly check-ins with all Corps Members on caseload, providing more intensive in-school and in-employment support and advocacy as needed.
  • Support Corp Members and Students in accessing the educational resources necessary to persist in and complete secondary education.
  • Conduct future-focused and spark-finding assessments for post-secondary education and co-facilitate life skills workshops for Corps Members, Students, and Staff.
  • Collaborate with school and employment and training personnel to track Corp Member and Student progress and address any school and/or employment-related issues that may impede the Corp Member and Student's ability to learn and thrive.
  • Proactively identify and address potential barriers while reactively addressing crises and barriers that arise.
  • Hold open office hours on campus, and assiduously cultivate an environment welcoming to Corp Members and Students in an atmosphere of possibility.
  • Enter all data on a time and accurately to support program evaluation and outcomes tracking and ensure proper and timely documentation of services.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across agencies, institutions, and systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Postsecondary education that has yielded a relevant certificate and/or credential; BA/BS degree and beyond preferred.
  • Four years of experience providing direct service to youth and young adults.
  • Two years of experience working with youth who have experienced the education system failing them, the foster care and justice systems, homelessness, or who are pregnant/parenting.
  • Familiarity with Santa Clara County’s secondary education landscape for those who left high school without their credential, and a strong understanding of the mechanics of the secondary education system.
  • High level of personal accountability for the quality and impact of work for social equity.
  • Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills; strong sense of professionalism, and ability to navigate conflict constructively.
  • Experience or a desire to learn more about the impact of systems on the lives of youth and young adults.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively, but with the capacity to work independently.
  • Must have a dependable car, valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bi-lingual preferred Spanish.

  • Department: CalFresh Employment and Training (CFET) and Support Services.
  • Reports to: Director, CFET, and Support Services.
  • FLSA Status: Full-time/Hourly.
  • Schedule:  Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
  • Location: 2650 Senter Rd, San Jose, CA 95111
