Job Description

Staff Product Manager
Energy Systems Simulation Ecosystem

About our Company

Equilibrium Energy is a well-funded clean energy startup in stealth mode backed by some of the most prominent institutional investors in climate. We’re a product development-centric company that is building our end-to-end energy operating company around bleeding-edge digital capabilities. We’re composed of deeply technical industry experts with decades of experience in both the technology and energy fields, and we pride ourselves on our cross-functional development ethos and intensely collaborative culture. Our mission is to accelerate our collective path to climate, electric ecosystem and societal equilibriums, and our plans are novel and ambitious.

We are building a company where data-driven insights fuel our decision-making, and autonomous workflows infused with ML and AI will be the engine of our differentiation. New colleagues will share our vision that a leading energy company can be built from the ground up on deep industry expertise combined with an unwavering commitment to data, ML, AI, automated workflows and autonomous decision making. Our capabilities are enabled by our aggressively modern software stack and engineering practices, which provide the scalability we need to put a serious dent in carbon emissions.

Our team is proud of our deeply collaborative culture, honest and direct but respectful communication, empathy and care for each other, and our balanced, flexible, and remote-first work environment. We’re looking for equally collaborative, talented and gritty folks to join our team and help us lay the foundation for our important mission and ambitious plan.

About the Job

At Equilibrium, we are building a company where collaborative and cross-functional innovation across deeply integrated and cohesive product and engineering teams drives superior product vision, design and execution. Our product managers foster our product development activities while helping to design and deliver innovative capabilities that underpin the company’s ambitious and novel business model.

We are looking for a Staff Product Manager to guide product development for our Energy Systems Simulation Ecosystem. Our simulation ecosystem is one of our most strategically important and ambitious foundational capabilities. It is a multi-purpose ecosystem that will enable our company to identify, model and capture intrinsic value across the energy value chain, thus powering the rest of our business model and internal capabilities. The individual who succeeds in this role will drive exponential growth for the company.

In the near-term, you will work with software engineers, data engineers, infrastructure engineers, data scientists, ML engineers, and other product managers to design and build our simulation ecosystem. In the medium-term, you will continuously improve and optimize the simulation ecosystem while honing your expertise of our product discovery and delivery processes to nurture a culture of innovation and delivery. Lastly, you will master the ability to convey a robust vision of the future that others will excitedly help you achieve, while having ample opportunity to extend your product expertise into additional product areas of the company as we grow.

  • Conduct Product Discovery for the simulation product suite to enable product development
    • Understand stakeholder needs and characterize them in crystal-clear requirements for applications, formulating both technical/market requirements for solutions, and identifying specific success-metrics
    • Use best practices in product discovery (e.g. design sprints, prototyping, stakeholder interviews) to develop strong collateral (e.g. user stories, product requirements, customer value propositions, MVPs, tests, system integrations, failure contingencies) from which engineers can seamlessly develop high quality products
    • Prioritize and manage product discovery backlog to deliver maximum value just-in-time
    • Contribute to team’s product discovery best practices toolkit and help colleagues think creatively about discovery in their respective focus areas
