Job Description

We believe in a world where less time getting there means more time being there, and that starts with Cora. With over a decade of piloted and autonomous flight experience, we’ve created Cora—our all-electric, self-flying air taxi that will change the future of daily commutes and urban travel. From day one, Cora by Wisk was designed with safety as our first priority using emissions free systems.
We’re working toward a future where you’ll be able to safely soar over traffic and get to where you’re going, faster. Because everyone has somewhere to be, someone to see, and now—a better way to get there.
We are currently looking for a Battery Cell Engineer to join our battery cell development group to serve as a subject matter expert in the area of novel cell chemistry development and battery performance modeling on current and future eVTOL projects.  The demands of batteries for use in the Urban Air Mobility Sector are challenging and pose unique challenges. You will join a highly skilled small team of like-minded engineers and scientists on our battery cell chemistry team to work on the development of battery performance models, cell degradation models, and BMS algorithms.
In addition, you will work with our scientists in designing and sourcing cells from strategic battery cell suppliers, generating test plans, analyzing test data, and presenting that data to a wider audience to help make vehicle-level decisions.  In this role, you will frequently work cross-functionally with disciplines across Wisk, including Aerodynamics, System Safety, Propulsion, GNC, Product Management, Flight Test, Loads and Autonomy. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone who is proactive, can fully grasp the challenges with working on the next generation of battery technologies for flight vehicles, and can work in a self-directed, fast paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop international cell supply chain
  • Design cells for next-generation electric vehicles
  • Develop mathematical models for cell performance, including degradation modeling
  • Perform cell teardowns, carry out root cause failure analysis, and propose countermeasures
  • Correlate cell performance to electrochemical properties
  • Design cell test plans, data analysis pipelines, and generate/present insights on cell performance to drive vehicle design

Requirements:

  • Must speak English and Mandarin
  • Direct experience working with cell manufacturers
  • Clear communication skills for presenting laboratory results
  • Experience with cell performance modeling
  • Wet laboratory experience with cell development
  • Cell characterization experience
  • Strong communication and data visualization skills
  • Experience with batch data processing
  • Fluency with computational programming languages, including: MATLAB, Python, and SQL

Desired:

  • Passion for electric vehicles
  • Cell destructive testing experience, including DO-311A or relevant standards compliance
  • Deep knowledge of cell component design, such as:
  • Electrode active materials and binders
  • Electrolyte
  • Separator
  • Experience with deploying data engineering pipelines on cloud platforms such as Google Cloud or AWS
  • Experience with streaming or event-based data processing
