Carbon Modeller

Terms: £25,000 to £30,000 depending on experience, full-time, flexible working (remote / UK-based)

Job description: BeZero Carbon is looking for a carbon modeller to work in our Natural Capital team. The role will focus on developing models of carbon stocks and flows across terrestrial, coastal and marine environments, using the latest peer-reviewed evidence, open source and procured data. These models will be used to support our work in developing carbon credit projects for a range of global clients, based on recognised carbon storage and removals methodologies. We anticipate this role expanding into natural capital modelling in a broader sense as we seek to develop markets for Nature-based Solutions.

As an ideal candidate you will have a background/education in mathematical modelling with experience in ecological and/or climate science. You will have strong analytical skills and be experienced in handling and presenting data in a clear, concise and accurate manner. 

You will report to BeZero’s Chief Science Officer and can either work remotely on a pre-agreed timezone, or from our London-based office on GMT hours. For more information visit www.bezerocarbon.com. 

Skills and experience required: 

• Higher degree (Masters or PhD) in geographic, ecological or climate sciences, including experience in GIS systems and programming with Python or similar language to construct models of environmental change. 
• Experience of carbon modelling to contribute to offsetting/crediting projects a strong advantage, along with knowledge of relevant methodologies.
• Knowledge about climate change impacts, mitigation and adaptation and familiarity with emerging narratives around natural capital and nature-based solutions essential.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite or equivalent.
• Strongly motivated, self starter willing to take the initiative to ensure that solutions are delivered on time.

• Conservation Capital: we help conservation groups access new forms of capital by designing strategies to shift their funding models away from donations towards income-based Natural Capital asset creation.
